Went from Mark V to IIC+ - and I kind of miss the V

that's a huge point that i think people overlook that a lot when they're striving for that mark2c+ signature sound......but, it think it makes one hell of a difference. the more and more i read and check out about these amps, the more and more im pretty sold on getting myself a mark V. one of...

    A stupid question...

what about a marshall dsl, or even a peavey ultra plus? they both go on CL around here for between 450-700. not a bad investment for a decent production line amp. i'd go DSL and run EL34's in it.

Connecting Mark V directly to soundcard

yep, me too....i was thinking "couldn't be". it would make it cooler if you could switch the ohms. but, from them directly, you can just get the 16 ohm one and use it with 16/8/4 regardless. i got the 8, as i use it with my combo amp.

short answer no long answer no why would you care what other people outside your housemates think anyways? crank it up and rawk out!

Guitar World Reviews the Mark V

at times, exactly. he's very fumbly as a player at times, and...well, kinda looks way too ...? calculated? with what he plays. i despise his vibrato.... but, on the flip, i DO appreciate that he's easy to listen to during his reviews. he did a review on an orange amp that absolutely had me...

    Foil shield shedding inside

swapping tubes? really, cost you your warranty? i guess only if you mention that to them. same with the alum shavings and the chassis being opened?

    Mark V video

the first one is comical 3 mark v's running. 4 cabs. and i can still hear his string acoustics. neat idea. i've thought of running 2 in tandem...that edge mode and mark 2 would sound incredibly thick together.

    Changing tubes, lower gain?

i'll say it, cuz i always do. give the mullard cv4024 a shot as a lower gain tube in v1 or v2.

We need a tube comparison/tone chart

theres SO MUCH good info in that link alone, it took me days literally to mentally digest it all...and, again, even though, generally, descriptions i read usually on the web, i just use to get a background and some sort of idea where others are coming from when describing tonal properties of...

    RFT vs. Tungsgram

every chinese tube i tried in my amps and tube pedals always sounds great to me. i dont know why or what caused the bad rap regarding them, but, i'm only about 2 years into this whole tube thing. i agree though, the short life is an issue, but the sound is pretty damned good.

Found a tube in old tape recorder (pics inside)

great find! great sounding tube, likewise, one of my faves, as i have 5 or 6 of them laying around. great in any position, and a GREAT sounding reverb tube despite what some people might think.

We need a tube comparison/tone chart

exactly, but my collection isnt done. im so addicted to the different tones just by changing tubes out, even same types and year makes! love doing it. if you want to get into it, my suggestion is find the limits of your certain amp and go from there with what you think sounds best. use your ears.

Hey Some Questions on the Mark V

about the RFI (radio frequency interference) what guitar are you using? is it just with one guitar? i used to have that problem with my ibanez jem, it picked up every staticky interfering freaking noise making device within 3 miles it seemed when i played it thru my heartbreaker straight in...

    Sylvania 12AX7s...tone character?

i think they're kind of neutral sounding, and depend on the voicing of your amp. the gain is phenomenal in them. have you tried a sovtek lps for PI? or a mullard cv4024?

    Sylvania 12AX7s...tone character?

the ones with the longer, wider, wavy plate with 6 holes in them are the best sounding ones for high gain. i love them. usually but not always labeled baldwin. http://www.tubemongerlib.com/gallery2/v/12AX7/Sylvania+12AX7+1960s+-+USA.jpg.html...

Is there an inexspensive and reliable way to test tubes...

honestly, i have a superior td55, it was cheap, gives me emissions, shorts and quality, and that's basically all i need. tubes that tested bad, didn't sound good, or didn't produce sound later (after the tests). i know it's not the best that's some KILLER equipment you have there, but i...
