best $45 accessory ever for my Mesa

Octavarious...OK, not gold-plated - LOL. On-Stage Stands. Edward - I hear you. Mine was on the floor in our rehearsal space. Hardwood floor. I understand the coupling issue - used to play this trick with small hi-fi speakers to get better bass response. But on the stand, there is better bass...

best $45 accessory ever for my Mesa

Sorry to sound like a drooling kid (hey, I'm 50), but just got an amp stand, and having a hard time wiping the grin off my face after putting my LSS on it. It's a whole new amp! Of course, I realized it was going to make a difference because of the axial response of treble frequencies vs. bass...

    Lonestar Head problem

We probably need a bit more information. 1. Is there any difference in the volume when you adjust the output versus solo volume controls? 2. Is the effects loop switched In or to Hard Bypass? If set to hard bypass, the Output and Solo controls have no function, and volume is controlled only by...

    newbie, first post

+1 on the Express; the 5:25 might be the best choice. I have a Lone Star Special and a Mk IV. The Mk IV, at the lowest settings, just barely makes the definition of bedroom amp. The LSS, though, can be made to scream pretty well - at low volumes - at the 5 watt setting. The Express should be...

    LONESTAR DIED onstage

That has got to suck. Hope it's something simple. That raises the question of what people do for backups? While I have more than one amp, the idea of hauling even more stuff back and forth to gigs is not tantalizing. What does everyone use as a backup? Another amp? Or a Line6 Pod or something...

    5Y3 MOD-IS THIS IT?

S/N is on a small plate or sticker that is right next to where the power cord enters the chassis - underneath side of the chassis. It is not on the back. It will start with the amp model; e.g. for my LSS it starts with "LS-" and for my Mark IV it starts with "IV-". Dave

    F30 stolen

http://www.clarionins.com/ There is another firm as well that specializes in covering instruments; cannot remember the name at the moment. Dave

    5Y3 MOD-IS THIS IT?

Of course, I went and checked mine...I am at 4492 - LOL. "did they - or didn't they?" Only way to know is pull the chassis. No rectifier problems so far, so going to leave it alone for now. Thanks for the info. Dave

LSS - pedalboard to combine channel & solo into one swit

Oh, very good...had not thought about that, I'll check it out. Thanks for your help. Dave

LSS - pedalboard to combine channel & solo into one swit

Is anyone building a pedalboard for the Lone Star Special that combines the channel and solo functions into a single switch (as well as having them separately)? This would simplify some current playing situations, where I need to go from clean to lead solo...yes, I can stomp both switches, but...

Convert LSS Combo to Head + Cab - Cost?

Apologies if this has been addressed before. I am considering converting my LSS combo to head + cab - squinted at the posted price list but didn't immediately see the cost of the shells. Anyone know offhand? Thanks, Dave

    My first mesa amp

Congrats on the new amp! Yes, the DSL probably did have something wrong - on OD1 it will scream and OD2 will howl. And it will get pretty loud; certainly not as loud as a halfstack, but loud enough. But hey, it doesn't matter, you have what you want - and that's great! If you need more drive...

    storage case for tubes?

camsna - thanks for the tip, I'll take a look. MrMarkIII - yeah, I get it - that's why I asked. Most of the solutions I am familiar with (from the camera bag side) are expensive. (E.g. Pelican cases makes some completely configurable hard-shell cases with removable foam blocks for custom...

    My first mesa amp

I haven't played the Express, Rectoverb, or Peavey. I do have the DSL401 and have had it for several years. While it's a neat amp in some ways, I would suggest that it basically has a limited tonal range - tending toward a high-gain crunch with a higher-gain version for leads. Most would...

    storage case for tubes?

Anyone have recommendations for a nice - and protective - storage case for a set of tubes? Would be nice to have something handy to carry a set of tubes to gigs, practices, etc. Let me know. Thanks in advance. Dave

it's a floor wax! a dessert topping! and an acoustic amp too

Apologies for the subject line - it's from an old Saturday Night Live faux commercial. Today, got together with my jam buddies - we've been doing some acoustic things, but decided we needed to test with amps before playing out. The other guitarist brought a Fender Acoustasonic - sounds great. I...

Anybody else have a popping noise in their LSS???

Oh good, now we're into some fun. So, just speculating here, you hit a low note hard, there is a big demand for current, and it cuts out like it has been switched off...power supply issue of some kind, perhaps? Bad cap? Dave

Anybody else have a popping noise in their LSS???

No - don't have this problem. Does it occur on both channels? Does it occur in the 5 and 15 watt settings as well? Have you tried changing preamp/power amp tubes? If you've done the tube swap and the problem still occurs, it needs to go to the tech. Dave

Mark III no need for LSS?

Well...yes, you need to play it and decide for yourself. I have a Mk IV and a LSS. Love both. But I would describe the clean on the Mk IV - while being great - as somewhat more sanitary than that of the LSS. The LSS clean is just more alive and has more depth. The lead channel on the IV is far...

    New Mark IV problem

Yeah, I just got back on and am reading the updates - that cap is crushed, which could be very bad if the internal plates are touching each other. Looks like someone used pliers to insert it. BTW, the brown marking around the solder joint is rosin flux. Sloppy soldering, so clearly the amp has...
