    LSS problem

Very pleased if not slightly embarrased to report that all is well. It was the guitar lead, but not the usual open circuit/intermittent thing, but the tip connection shorting to the ground due to an internal break in the insulation, where the cable has flexed. The meter proved this and on closer...

    LSS problem

Hi I am hoping someone can maybe help with an issue with my LSS. I play channel 2 mainly with the drive engaged, on 5w setting. The amp has both reeder mods, done a few months ago. I was playing at the weekend and found that the amp had hardly any drive or guts to the tone. The drive knob...

Any thoughts on turning my lonestar special into a 2x10

I think it would probably sound great, but how would you propose modifying the baffle to take 2 x 10 inch speakers? Maybe just stick a 12 inch gold in, much less hassle. I have done both Reeder mods on my LSS, they are simple to do if you can solder and have a bit of experience in doing this...

    Electra-Dyne Clip (Metallica)

Great, thanks, now I need to get one of these amps too!

    Let's talk dirt boxes

I have a Hartman vintage germanium treble booster which really makes channel 2 shine for a bright Blackmore ish Burn type sound. I also have a Danelectro cool cat drive pedal, ultra cheap, that is great to push channel 2 into rich distortion, truly a great pedal for the silly low price.

Lonestar Drive Knob - Reeder mod people might be interested

Hi I am very interested that you said you did the speaker change. How did this affect the sound of the amp? I am considering swapping out one of the C90s in my LSS for a V30. Over on the Electra Dyne section, someone has posted details of a 2x12 cab with this set up. I would like to put in 2...

Clean channel sounds better with overdrive pedal

I agree, post Reeder mods the clean channel rarely gets used. I was playing along with some Deep Purple today with no effects, channel 2, and my LSS and Strat really sounded like Blackmore circa early 70s, just beautiful. For extra dirt I stick on a Danelectro Cool Cat drive pedal, the silver...

    Tube question for LSS

Hi I am in the UK but have used Eurotubes. Bought a full set of tubes, JJs and they worked perfectly. My latest retube of the power valves I bought JJs from Voc Rock in the UK. I called them and had a chat; the guy there was very knowledgeable and he thanked me for telling him I had a Boogie LSS...

Reeder Mod correcting a "defect" the way people talk

It comes down to personal taste. I just prefer the amp modded, and when I have the money I will probably also fit some Celestion blues or golds. I enjoy tinkering with gear and my guitars are not standard/as supplied either. The comment that if the amps were supplied with the Reeder mod already...

Any reason not to crank the loop volume all the way up?

I have just started doing this. I have an Eventide Timefactor in the loop. No problems with clipping and seems to add a bit of brightnees and life to channel 2.

    Reeder Mod 1 and 2

Just an update, a week on or so from doing the 2 Reeder mods on my LSS; I was very happy when I first did the mods. Since then I have experimented with the tone controls and I find they are so much more useable, (not sure if 'useable' is a word but I'm sure you know what I mean). I used to have...

    Reeder Mod 1 and 2

As stated by everyone else, I didn't touch the 5th screw. I just removed the output valves and the rectifier valve as a precaution. The chassis comes away very easily, and I was very surprised by just how light it is. The weight is definately in the cabinet and speakers.

    Reeder Mod 1 and 2

Hi Just did the pot swap and mid mod on my LSS. It was a bit fiddly to do, the hardest thing being to get the lower pots out as they clash with the PCB. Anyway all done in about an hour. I have done stuff like this before so was qute confident. If you have not I would recommend getting a tech...

    New Lonestar Special!!!

Hi I use JJ el84s, and like the electro harmonix eh tubes for the preamp; found the jj 12ax7s a little dark. I totally agree with steve73 regarding the tone controls: I have found the key to getting good sounds, especially on channel 2 is to forget any preconceived ideas you may have from using...

    LSS speakers

Well a quick update: I was just playing with the amp, switched it over to the 5 watt setting, and no sound. I guessed an output tube had blown. (I bought the amp just over a year ago second hand and revalved it with JJ tubes btw). I just put the Harma EL84s it came with back in, and not only is...

    LSS speakers

Hi I have a 2x12 LSS. I am getting some good sounds, especially with the mids turned down, as someone recently suggested, (great great tip, thankyou). However I struggle to get the thing to sound bright enough on channel 2. I figure things are not quite right if I need the mid control almost on...

Tonal secret to the LSS: KILL THE MIDS!

I have been using my LSS with the bass pretty well off and the treble nearly all the way up; talking channel 2 here btw. I just tried turning the mid control off/only just on (and retuning the bass and treble controls). What a difference. Thanks very much for the tip, sounds great, very clear...

    LSS Channel 1 30-15-5 weirdness

Hi I just checked out my LSS. I have to play at low volume in the house to keep the neighbours happy btw. Anyway on channel 1 on my amp there is a very very obvious difference when switching form 5 watts to 15 and a slightly less obvious difference when changing to 30 watts. It is very apparent...
