    Lonestar bias mod

Thanks Charles. I will drop John a line and see what he says.

    Lonestar bias mod

Does anyone know if the Lonestar adjustable bias mod would work on an LSS and if so if it would be a worthwhile mod. I did read on the Eurotubes site that the Mesa EL84 amps are biased hotter than the 6L6 amps. I do like the tone of my LSS fitted with JJ output tubes (NOT JJ preamp tubes though)...

Pedals that stack well with LSS Drive channel

I have 3 boosts, all used on channel 2 with drive engaged usually on the thick setting with drive up at about 2 oclock with the gain around 11 oclock. I have an Hartman germanium treble booster, a very old Boss OD1 and a Skreddy Skrewdriver. All are used individually, not stacked, to help the...

For the LSC or LSS gurus

On my LSS there is a very noticeable pop when switching channels that are set on different power modes.

Is it possible to make the Lonestar lighter?

Stick some neo spekers in it. I put 2 celestion neos in my LSS and it is so much easier to carry. Sounds great but I do concur that it will change the sound. In my case I thought it changed it for the better, but that is only my opinion. Also it has to be said that speaker changes are like...

LSS: No Sound on 5w and 15w Setting

The 5Y3 is the rectifier tube. It is not a pre amp tube. The LSS uses the rectifier tube in 5 and 15 watt settings, but uses a solid state rectifier on the 30w setting.

Placement of Lonestar Special serial number?

Oops, sorry. I just checked again, I knew I had seen it somewhere. The Sn on mine is definately on a sticker on the under side of the chassis, next to the rectifier valve tube base, to the right of the rectifier tube as you look from the back. Get down low and use a torch. I have removed the...

    Protective Cage for Power Tubes?

Its probably a European legislation thing. In the UK there are lots of safety legislation and all consumer stuff has to have a CE marking to show it has passed the regs applicable to the class the item comes under. I work in electronics, and several times have seen manufacturing equipment come...

Placement of Lonestar Special serial number?

The sn on mine is on a plate fitted on the inside left of the cabinet as you face the rear of the amp.

Mesa Lonestar Special 1x12 5w Setting Dead Failure

Cool. I have used a company called Voc Rock fairly recently; rang them up and the guy was very knowledgeable; just make sure you tell him the valves are for a Mesa so they can send out some suitable ones. Got them very quickly and its always great to talk to someone who knows their stuff. I use...

Mesa Lonestar Special 1x12 5w Setting Dead Failure

Glad you got it working again. Re the power tubes, I just had a look at the manual and under the section describing the function of the power selector switch it states that the tube to the "far left facing rear", is the one that is used for the 5W mode. That would be the one near the rectifier...

Mesa Lonestar Special 1x12 5w Setting Dead Failure

I would try swapping round the 4 output tubes, as the 5w mode uses only 1 tube. No idea why the solo function would play up, but it won't cost anything to try swapping the tubes round.

    Speaker Replacement in LSS (Redux)

I used folded over kitchen paper under the terminals which saved the day when the solder dripped. The only other thing is to make sure you have a soldering iron with enough watts. My 16 watt iron was not enough to solder the very thick wire between amp speaker plug and speaker. Get a 40 watt...

    A Theory

I also have a Deluxe strat, and went through a similar process of mods, with similar results. I replaced the pick ups with a set of Kinman Woodstock plus, with the wiring harness offering some non standard combinations. It was only when I replaced the block for a Callaham steel one that the...

How much do you crank Channel 2?

Hi The manual set up examples, (LSS), show the drive and gain at fairly conservative levels. I am getting amazing sounds on channel 2 with the drive on about 4 o'clock, (the knobs maxed out look like about 5 o'clock, just so you know what I mean), and the gain on 2 o'clock, treble almost maxed...

    Speaker Recommendation for LSS

After a few days I have a bit more info on the neos. Firstly I mostly use channel 2 and it sounds really good, the drive being a bit smoother and more to my taste. (As an aside here I appreciate that people with stock lonestars will probably be thinking why get a lonestar, do both the reeder...

    Speaker Recommendation for LSS

Well I am expecting some negative responses to this, but here goes.....I have an LSS, 2x12, with both Reeder mods. Great amp that has really grown on me. But, it is just too heavy; I recently had to take it upstairs as I had workmen in downstairs, and I could not believe how difficult it was to...

LSS Combo split to head/cab Now What?

Couple of questions Are head shells readily available from Mesa or are people making their own or is there another maker? I am in the UK so I expect I would have to get Westside to order one if I wanted one from Mesa. Anyone dealt with Westside? Thanks for any replies. Tom

Are there any weird problems with getting the foot switch

I would try taking the footswitch out of the equation. I think if you plug the footswitch cable into the amp but leave it disconnected from the foot switch, then you can see if the switch functions work by shorting tip to ground and then ring to ground, on the unplugged cable end, using an...
