    Footswitch Drive Mod

This is the thread about the foot switchable drive mod. You would need an additional footswitch to make it work. Try the search function for footswitch etc. May find some more useful stuff. http://forum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38108&hilit=ft+switchable+drive

What speakers do you run in your LSS?

I have the 2 x 12. A while ago I put in 2 Celestion Century Neos. I wanted to brighten the amp up and also make it lighter as it was stupidly heavy. The Centurys worked OK sounded pretty good but I couldn't help thinking the amp had lost something, and soundrd a little flat. I ended up putting...

To mod or not to mod...?

Do you have a manual? This will tell you which tubes work the 50w mode. Make sure they are spec'd for the amp as well. I would also have a look at what pre amp tubes are in it. I found JJ pre amp tubes to be very dull and lifeless. Not knocking JJ because I often use JJ el84 power tubes. I ended...

To mod or not to mod...?

Where are your bass and mids? I have both around 9-10 o'clock on my LSS. The treble is up pretty high, around 3 o'clock, but the presence is quite low, 10ish and it sounds great. How old are your tubes? Could be knackered power tubes. (Sorry if this is all obvious stuff !). When I first had my...

Is it possible to use other tubes than EL84´s in LSS ?

Well the title of the thread is: Is it possible to use other tubes than EL84´s in LSS ? So no, I don't think the OP was asking about different brands.

Is it possible to use other tubes than EL84´s in LSS ?

I don't think you can. I know Eurotubes offer a lower watt(?) version of an EL84 but it would probably need the cathode resistors to be changed to accomodate them. It is possible to put EL84s in EL34 amps using an adaptor but not the other way round. You will find that the brand of tube can make...

    5751 in V1 of LSS

I recently put a 5751 (Electro Harmonix gold) in V1 of my LSS. I thought it sweetened up channel 2 but not really a massive difference. I was just browsing Watford valves' web site and had a look at their preamp kits for Lonestars. One of them comes with a 5751, but Watford said to put it in V2...

Mesa will not cover replacement of screen resistor(s)?

I am very surprised and very disappointed with Mesa's attitude to the OPs issues. I wonder if there is small print in the warranty that specifies that if a tube blows that any related circuitry is not covered under warranty. An LSS is over £2000 new, here in the UK. I would feel I had paid up...

Adjustable Bias Mod Kit First Impressions

Apparently the LSS is cathode biased (kind of self adjusting), so the bias mod, which is meant for fixed bias amps does not apply. I am no expert so any one knows different......................

Finally tried the Lonestar Special today - qeustion

You guys are weird! I have my LSS set opposite to this.....gain most of the way up, drive to taste, currently around the 11 oclock position. I have done both Reeder mods and also swapped out the speakers, and use various drive pedals to push it. Sounds great.

LSS power tubes: which tubes apply to which wattage setting?

Sorry to contradict you, but according to the manual: "15 watt setting runs only the outside........pair of tubes............The 5 watt setting uses 1 x EL84 (far left facing rear)".

To mod or not to mod...?

I would make sure the amp is working 100% before deciding to mod it. There is a good youtube demo with settings that includes the Classic. I have attemped to paste the youtube link below. The settings they use for the lonestar are similar to how I have my LSS dialed in, at least on channel 2...

To mod or not to mod...?

I have the Special, not the Classic, and initiallty felt much the same. I think it would help if you gave an idea of your settings. I find having the gain up almost full with the drive engaged but backed off to about 12 o'clock (I do use boost and drive pedals as well) gives a lovely sound even...

    Lonestar Reverb Problem

Hi First off you do have the Classic. I have the Special and had reverb issues with mine. I ended up getting a new reverb tank, (about 35 quid I think) from TAD, (Tube Amp Doctor). The other thing you could try is changing out the valve associated with the reverb circuit, (the manual will tell...

What horror stories have you heard about Analogman? Are you sure?

    LSS schematic / help?

Sorry. I tried to get the schematic also, from Mesa's UK distributor. Turned me down flat..........

    Lonestar bias mod

Wow, very interesting. When ordering output tubes my supplier has always made a big deal about selecting ones for a Boogie when I told him I had an LSS. Don't think I was ever charged any extra but still.........

Original tune recorded with LSC & Ruby el34 BSTR's

Nice Great tone and playing. The singer is very good as well. Nothing like Ian Gillan but very good.

I'm offering another free bias mod kit

Hi John Do you mean the Lonestar Classic, not the Special?

    Lonestar bias mod

I am no expert but I am pretty certain that the LSS is not cathode biased. Regards Tom
