Hey Folks, some of you unabashed rig nerds may be interested in a related JP2C combo vid that @Doug Doppler just dropped. It's not 100% focused on the JP2C combo per say, but for those who are looking for strategies, tips and associated gear to enhance their current rig this may be a worthwhile view. Or if you're desiring to redo everything from scratch and up your rig game this could helpful.

For those who may not know, Maddi Schieferstein is the longtime tech for John Petrucci responsible for his axes and building his rigs. He does know a thing or two ;) Enjoy

I’m somewhat surprised at the presence at 2 o’clock and 6k slider up near top line. Both are pretty high. Is the JP2c a somewhat dark amp? In contrast, when Petrucci was on Beato’s show a while back with a Mark VII the presence on channel 3 was at around 10 o’clock.

JP2C is a bit darker in tone than the Mark VII. I should try those settings and see how it sounds.

Hey @mace - the cool thing about the JP~2C is that they were really going for a Presence control that could be used across pretty much the entire spectrum of the control, which is really cool, and one of my favorite things about the amp, per being able to get it to sit really well in a mix:)

Yeah, I've been watching a couple videos online on the VII, just came across one yesterday by a British guy doing a walk-through, and also the presence is down at 9-10 o'clock on channels 2 and 3. for a while I thought my VII was too bright but I think this is how they are made, with a lot of grind. Definitely need to dial with ears and not eyes.

Is presence only affected by the power tube circuit or do the 12AX7's have anything to do with presence?

Edit: I remember that I have posted such sentiments before.. :) Anyway, seems to be a concensus via youtube video settings that presence on high gain on the VII around 9-10 o'clock is typical (D. West, JP, random youtube reviewers etc.)
