I've got a ~1990 Studio Pre that seems a bit harsh sounding to me. I was wondering what benefit would I get with a re-capping (tonewise)?

The problem is that such harsh tone doesn't seem to be due to some settings, but it's like a general character of the preamp tone.

thank you guys. I finally ended up buying a Furman PL-8 C E. Surprisingly, my tone somehow improved: it is a bit more defined (some flubby bottom end has gone) and some of the higher frequency ice-peaky harshness has gone too.
