    Cabinet emulator help.

Hi, I own a Studio Pre and use it with Mooer Radar. Works great. The Studio's recording outs are not usable imho (too smoothed-out tone, mellow-sounding).

    re-new studio preamp user

Hi Antonio, I'm sometimes using my Studio Pre with Mooer Radar poweramp+cab simulator and it's great. I suppose the Torpedo is even better. As far as tubes I've tried some different brands (JJ, TungSol) but ended up sticking with Mesa 'premium' (low noise) 12ax7 (they're called SP-AX7 or...

    Advice for compact mixer

Anyone knows a compact mixer (2-8 channels) with adjustable mid frequency?

Has anyone re-capped his 'old' preamp?

I've got a ~1990 Studio Pre that seems a bit harsh sounding to me. I was wondering what benefit would I get with a re-capping (tonewise)?

not happy with studio preamp tone (high gain)

The problem is that such harsh tone doesn't seem to be due to some settings, but it's like a general character of the preamp tone.

not happy with studio preamp tone (high gain)

Hi, I own a studio preamp (made in 1989 or 1990, bought in 2005) and use it with a 50/50 poweramp. I've been tweaking it for a long time but it seems to me the tone I get is always quite harsh. I would like to have some singing mid-esque high gain tone (I mainly play as rhythm guitar), but...

50/50 Stereo power amplifier (need help)

Thanks Triaxstasy, it's great to get help from one who's got direct experience.

50/50 Stereo power amplifier (need help)

Hi, I play a Mesa Studio Pre into a Mesa 50/50 Stereo (the old one, not the newer 2:50). The 50/50 Stereo outputs are 8 ohms or 4 ohms. So, I'm gonna buying a 2x12 for home-playing (don't have space for a 4x12 at home!). The cab's got 2 x Celestion Vintage 30 and can be used in mono (8 ohms) or...

How old were you when you started playing?

I started playing guitar at 15 (well I believe I was nearly 16). Now I'm 27. The first electric I played was my dad's 70s/early 80s Cimar by Ibanez (I did not even know he had an electric guitar at the time). One year after, a Fender Stratocaster arrived home (I was so excited for finally owning...

    EMG pickup question

Thank you for your reply. I agree with all you said, but I can live with a lower quality guitar, also because it wouldn't be my main axe. My only fancy would be EMGs in it, since I'm looking for decent definition with low tunings. A friend of mine let me play live his ESP KH-2 with EMGs three or...

    EMG pickup question

Hi. I'm searching for a quite cheap guitar with which I'll be experimenting some downtuning (C, B or drop Bb, drop A tunings) and I want it to be fixed bridge and EMG equipped. It should be a 25.5" scale, since I don't want extra-loose strings nor going with .060s  Can you suggest a...

    Alternatives to Furman

thank you guys. I finally ended up buying a Furman PL-8 C E. Surprisingly, my tone somehow improved: it is a bit more defined (some flubby bottom end has gone) and some of the higher frequency ice-peaky harshness has gone too.

    Alternatives to Furman

I'm searching for a power conditioning rack system and it seems that Furman is the most popular choice. Does anyone know if there are similar/better makes? I mean no real power conditioning, my main concern is voltage filter/cleaning

Studio Pre tubes: tung-sol vs mesa STR

I just got two Tung-Sol 12AX7 tubes and tried one in different positions in my Studio Pre. I recorded these clips for the interested/curious ones and to get some opinions (what are the benefit/worsening of the tung sol in the various positions in your opinion? which clip do you like the most?)...

Studio Pre direct (EDIT: raw tracks vs mixed & mastered)

Thank you all for your comments guys. I'm not fully satisfied with the mastered tracks either. Maybe the main "missing thing" is the guitar & bass cohesion. Then, I think direct recording will never give you the same feeling as mic'ing a real cab, which I believe adds more attack and edge to...
