Mark III ? How often do you guys change your power tubes?

Preamp tubes only when there is a fault. Power tubes can last a very long time in Marks as they are not stressed into overdrive and are usually fan cooled. They really can go for years.

    Front loading speakers

Just the straight Neo. The spec for the Jet Tornado described more top end bite and less (and looser) bottom end.....neither of which I wanted. Having now gigged with it, I find it smoother than the EVM. It is also easier to balance tones and volumes between channels, which is an unexpected...

    Front loading speakers

Speaker arrived. Fitted without incident. Didn't use a gasket. Screw holes and cutout matched fine. Soundwise: (1) Noticeably less volume than the EVM (hardly a surprise) but hardly a problem with the amount of amp power on tap. (2) No great loss of bottom end depth or tightness, top end...

    Front loading speakers

I have ordered the Neo 12. Feedback to follow.

    Front loading speakers

Very limited space means dividing by 2 is not an option.

    Front loading speakers

Much as I love the EVM, I have to get the weight of my Mark iii down or it runs the risk of staying in the house. I am looking at a Jensen Neo 12. However, I can't find any useful information about actually mounting it. So...anybody....can you answer any of these questions: (1) Have you...

A Few Mark III Questions (Speaker Load, Reverb)

The reverb tube (12ax7) is the leftmost looking from the back. BTW the reverb is a little unusual on a mark iii in that is is never off unless the reverb pot is set to zero. If it is working normally it also works differently with the footswitch unplugged. I presume you have a manual and have...

Are good cables REALLY worth the extra dosh?

Sad thing is that many experienced guitarists, particularly those of us who survived the 70s stacks, might be able to play great but not notice a sonic difference in cables. Many of us use far more treble than we used to (sound familiar?). Although we now try to play at less ear threatening...

PRS + Mesa... why do they work so well together?

I think it is more a case of people with the willingness to be flexible in their opinions. The guitar world is full of stubbornness and ritual choices. Many can not be convinced that any other than a "Les Paul through an old Marshall" (insert any combination of Fender/Gibson/Vox etc)can...

Boost fx loop level in a MK3?

Have you tried higher lead master and less overall master to compensate?

    Foot Switch Cables?

I found that with my Mark iii that cables can make difference if you are using fx and the loop. I never worked out why but found that some screened guitar cables could cause hum to be picked up on my pedal board. This disappears if you use speaker cables. As these are more robust any I have...

    EVM 12L vs MC-90

I have never found anything I like better than the EV in the combo (green stripe mk iii, hardwood, graphic, simulclass). I have ended up using mine with a Marshall 1912. A cheap option in the UK but it adds low end thump and is a good volume match for the EV. The 1912 on its own lacks bite...

Mk-IV Volume knob is very touchy

My mark iii was the same until the volume pot was renovated. Spraying deoxit might help if your are lucky. I removed the whole pot: dissembled, cleaned and retensioned the wiper. A really awkward job to get the pot in/out. Depends how much it bothers you.

Mark iii ground switch for UK users.

Does the ground switch on a Mark iii have any function in the UK where all our sockets are 240 volts and grounded. If so how should it be set? (BTW the amp does have a voltage selector)

    A B Switch

Cheap AB switches usually don't do the job as they induce hum loops. Used to be you needed an isolating transformer on 1 of your amps. Since the arrival of 3PDT foot switches there is another way. What I do is: 1. Switch the hot wires (all AB boxes do that) 2. Short out the "off" amp feed...
