I second the notion that it is a great way to get through a gig if a tube blows. Personally, I didn't like the results of doing this purely based on how it changed the overall sound of the amp. Although I did love the lowered headroom since it was definitely noticeable.

I just picked up a used Traditional Recto 4x12...my first 4x12 ever :D I used to run my DR through an Orange PPC112 (1 x 12) and I feel like my balls have officially dropped. Still working out the eq'ing, but it just sounds sooo much BIGGER and smoother!! All in very great ways :)

Recto cabs. I was looking at the Mesa website and it says there are three different 2x12's...the Compact, Horizontal, and Vertical. The Compact and Horizontal are basically identical, but the Compact is smaller.

So, I was at band practice today and quickly realized that, based on the burning smell coming from my 60w Orange PPC112, that I was pushing it waaaayy too hard with my 3-Channel Dual Rec...and the master volume was only at 10 o'clock. I'm taking this as my cue that it's finally time to upgrade...

Why? Everyone's got to start somewhere. Granted he could have mentioned any research he's done already, but I think it's a rather valid question.

MesaMonster, do you find that it holds up well at gig/live levels? I've been thinking about getting the M13 or TC Nova System but am weary about how it sounds at high levels.

+1 for this. I love all of the bands listed above and have never had too much trouble nailing the sounds with my DR. I find that for Finch the biggest trick is in what type of guitar I use. I use my LP for "What it is to Burn" and a Strat for "Say Hello to Sunshine" sounds. One day maybe...

I LOVE the sound of the reborn recto's. The only reason why I haven't gotten one is because of the price...can't afford anything like that. Though I guess you'd be taking a chance on not being able to find 'that' sound that you dialed in and love on your 3ch...I have heard about that happening...

I think this is one of the things that I've been a little concerned about since my cab is 60w. Maybe it's time to sell it and use the money towards one of the Mesa 1x12's or a recto 2x12. Hopefully a 2x12 will fit in my car :)
