Mesa Stiletto or Marshall Vintage Modern?

cperc - my recommendation would be the Stiletto (when you find a good specimen). I like the British-flavored tones and think that there's a world of flexibility for you with the Stiletto. If you invest in a decent A/B box, you could use your Fender for the truly clean tones and set the...

EL34s What are you using these days?

My wife got me a set of Mesa's STR 447's to replace the stock tubes and I think the 447's sound great. I don't know if you can still get them from MB, but it would be worth checking out, in my opinion.

Just one more guitar won't hurt .

Nice-looking guitar. The double-white pickup bobbins look really good with that top.

    Ive got $2,000 which PRS/Gibson/Fender???

So many questions to ask, like your preference in scale length, woods, bridge, pickups, etc. However, for your price range, I'd be hunting around for a Grosh. No offense to PRS, Gibson or Fender, but the fretwork on the Grosh will outshine those three and I say that as someone who owns some...

I think I've found some great speakers for my Stiletto!!!

Very cool choice, RB! I've been really intrigued by those. The M75's seem like a really logical choice for a Marshall or British-voiced amp. I'm not surprised that you are really pleased with them. Congrats!

What Chorus Pedal do you guys use?

I have two different chorus pedals that I really like for different applications. First is the classic TC SCF. The SCF is more of a high-tech chorus so it's not really intended to color the tone like an old Boss CE-1. It's got such good bandwidth on its response that you can use the pedal...

    My Birthday present (Suhr Guitar)

Cool guitar and a belated happy b-day to you. Your mods really changed the look of that guitar in a big way. Glad that you are digging the new pickups.

I think I've found some great speakers for my Stiletto!!!

Those Scumbacks have been really intriguing to me for some time after I first heard about them on the Metro Amps forum. I've been wanting to try a pair of M75's with my plexi but I hadn't thought about trying them with the Stiletto.

Tips for tabing out guitar tabs by ear

Break songs down into VERY small sections. And if necessary, count the number of notes in a phrase or lick - that way, you can make sure that you are really getting the passage down. Lastly, take breaks. Your ear can fatigue like your muscles can during exercise and if your ear gets tired...

Feedback issues with the Stiletto combo

Skinuzzi - it would be cheap and easy to try some tube swapping. Grab a known good tube and go one at a time through the preamp tubes and see if one is microphonic. Just because tubes are rated "low microphonics" doesn't mean that they can't go bad or just be a bum tube from the beginning...

another "I wish I was righthanded" moment for me...

One of my best friends had a later version of the VA Luke that was also a NAMM guitar. It was really cool and differed some from this one, being swamp ash with EMG's in a H/S/S layout. But that one looks nice even if it says ESP. I may have to post this one at the Grosh forum and see if Don...

What Reverb pedal are you guys using with the Stiletto?

"Reverb? We don't need any stinking reverb!"

Why do you think the Stilettos get a bad rap?

I think the "bad rep" can be attributed to one of the following: 1) It's brighter than most other Boogie models, so that throws some people. 2) Some people try one in a store and just crank everything up and never read the manual. Also, they probably don't experiment with the rectifier and...

Played a new Charvel So-Cal today - GAS!!!

Any number of custom builders could work up something like that for you. In addition, Gibson is offering a Floyd'd Les Paul called the Axcess that has your preferred 2 volume/2 tone setup
