The other guitarist in my cover band uses a THD hot plate. He says he uses it so he can get that "cranked" tone without being too loud for smaller venues. I keep telling him the only way to get that "cranked" tone is to CRANK the **** thing haha! And if he's worried about being too loud for...
That's a big part of the equation not to be concerned about.
FWIW I personally think you can't get the "Recto" tone unless you have the proper speakers/cabinetry. I have a 70's Peavey 4x12 (before they put the aluminum trim on the sides) with the original speakers and the tone isn't the same as...
Went out and bought all new power tubes and rectifier tubes today.
Before testing my luck with all new tubes I looked inside again to double check the guts and came across this.

Now just before practice I went into my basement to warm up a bit and after a few minutes low end went out, inner 2 6l6's glowing bright red then the rectifier tubes started flashing then pop!
And then the dreaded smell of something burning. :(
I opened her up and flipped her over to check...
I used to say something similar when I had my old (and quite obnoxious) rig.
It was an ATA flight approved 2 head (loaded with 2, 2 channel Dual Rectifiers) 15 space rack (loaded with goodies and a 3 space rack drawer that had EVERYTHING I could EVER need)
I would also lug around 2, 4x12's to...
Is that still an ongoing issue? I remember reading about that roughly 3 years ago.
I'm selling a friends DR and he can't find the footswitch, I went to Radio Shack and got the parts (including LED) for literally $5.
