    The new Mark VI

Well, the die-hard recto fans would say it's not a real recto; the die-hard Boogie Mark fans would call it a "broken" Mark VI, yada yada yada... Plus, MESA would sell a few less Recto's in the process, which I'm not sure if it's a good move for them (they'll know better than anyone else). Fact...

Finally, a booster worthy of my Mark V!!

Yes, the Mark V does have a lot of gain available. Call me picky, but I just don't like having to have the Gain knob pushed all the way up to get a heavier saturated sound. That will be good for certain sounds, but will then render the rest of the mode/channel useless for other lower gainy stuff...

    The new Mark VI

Second that! You're probably right. I don't think there ever was a time when the market was so flooded with lower wattage amps. The tendency seems to be for less - not more - power, along with some gimmicks like the CabClone that will eventually allow you to plug your amp directly to...

    The new Mark VI

Ok, bit of a teaser title this was, but I guess this forum also serves to stimulate conversation. So here goes: what would be your dream list of specs for the new Mark VI (if there ever is one)? Here are mine: 1. All the modes we now have in the Mark V. 2. One additional mode that could...

Finally, a booster worthy of my Mark V!!

Hi. I decided I needed some kind of booster pedal to plug my guitar in and give me some additional saturation to chase those heavier high gain sounds on my Mark V. It bothered me to have to have the GAIN turned all the way up in my Mark V and not getting quite there without fiddling around...

Mesa tubes or others? Full re-tube, what to buy?

My opinion is to for the MESA branded tubes. If you think about it, different branded tubes sound different because of different (small or large) electrical properties, like biasing of the current passing through the tube grid and stuff like that. I'd rather have my Mark V behave as close as...

Mark V: what's underneath the tolex coverings?

FYI, plywood is not a type of wood, it's a way of organizing wood into sheets/layers (or plies). So, yes, you can have birch plywood boards, just as you can have 'em made out of cedar, pine or spruce. In fact, if you look at the sides of the unfinished speakers (see picture above), or even the...

Mark V: what's underneath the tolex coverings?

Wow! This is really cool! Or hot! Not sure which term to use. Really nice stuff. Plus, if my house ever gets robbed again, "that heavy old broken thing with knobs on it" will probably be the last thing on the thieves minds... Now I wonder how difficult it would be to replicate those...

Mark V: what's underneath the tolex coverings?

Well, I don't have a problem with that natural birch tone also. Just not sure about those visible layers of plywood that you can see on the sides. In my opinion, it would make the cab look somewhat unfinished. But that's just me.

Mark V: what's underneath the tolex coverings?

It does look good, but doesn't have that flair (in my opinion) of a purposedly choosen wood finish. So a new vinyl covering it will have to be. Thanks!

Mark V: what's underneath the tolex coverings?

Thanks! Would it be too much to ask you to post a picture of a "raw" Mark V - or indeed any amp head model that uses the same wood - so I know what it looks like when stripped of its vinyl? That would help me decide as to wether I'll have some vinyl reapplied or a simple wood varnish treatment...

Mark V: what's underneath the tolex coverings?

Hi! I recently purchased a second-hand Mark V. It's got a red vinyl finish which looks nice, although I'm not emotionally attached to it. Just came that way. In the past couple of days I realized there's a bit of vinyl peeling off here and there. Nothing much, but of course it will only get...

Load box made out of a paperless speaker?

Actually, the idea would be to connect the Slave Out directly to my soundcard and further process the sound with some plug-in like Nebula. Just needed a way to muffle the speaker sound so as to not disturb the rest of the household/neighbors. The CabClone is probably my best bet, as it's a...

Load box made out of a paperless speaker?

Well, that settles the argument. Thanks for the explanation. Best regards!

    1st Mesa amp / Mark V / Some remarks

I've been looking at the MXR Carbon Copy too, basically because it would keep an all analog signal path throughout (guitar > MXR > Mark V). The Strymon Timeline I have is a digital device. On the other hand, analog probably means some added noise no matter how great the circuit is, whilst the...
