I'm still trying to figure out my 2-channel Dual Rec.
It is so drastically different from my DC-5 that I want to make sure I am getting the absolute most from it.

2-Channel
Rev. F
Chrome Faced
Early model transformers

Here are my questions:
1. How do I get rid of the 'Tone Suck' when using the Loop?
2. Do I have to learn to live with the drastic volume jump when the Loop is not on and I use the Channel Master?
3. Has anyone experimented with the Tone Stack for the Orange Channel?
4. What speakers are you guys using? I'm buying a Mesa traditional 4x12 this weekend, but don't know what speakers are in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I never played with the effects loop much. I did put a delay on the orange channel at some point, but I ended up taking it off shortly because I like playing with it on the red channel (very annoying to others  ). I did notice some tone loss, but I didn't really have any volume jumping problems. :?:

Keep in mind that the damage done to that amp was done through the effects loop. It's possible there's still something wrong with it. But I'm sure it's nothing you can't fix.

I personally use a Marshall 1960a cabinet with 4 Celestion G12-75's in it, and I love it. I've also played through a Peavey 5150 cabinet with Sheffield speakers, the same cabinet with Celestion V30's, and a Madison cabinet with V30's. I was not impressed with the Sheffield speakers, but anything with V30's sounds amazing. Right now I'm torn between keeping my Marshall cabinet or selling it and getting one of those Madisons.

To my knowledge, I think Mesa Traditionals have V30's in them, unless they've been switched out.

Thanks Justin,

The loop doesn't make any noise or act funky. In fact, it acts just like my old Tremoverb.
I think it has to do with the fact that you're adding another Master Volume into the circuit with the loop.

The Heartbreaker's loop has been the best I've used so far. Maybe I'll look into a slight mod that is completely reversible.

Thanks again for the amp, I'm hoping to use it with the band this Tuesday!

IMO, the loop on the 2 channels just sucks too much tone... hands down.

My experiment was with a BBE sonic maximizer 482i in the loop, nothing else. This model of the maximizer has a button on that basically bypasses the circuitry so you can hear the difference between the tones instantly. This is one piece of equipment that really does what it says... it seems to take off the blanket off of your cab that you never knew existed. This is true in every amp I have ever tried it with... except of course the 2 channel DR.

Bypassing the loop on my DR seems to do what the maximizer does to other amps.

I think of my 2 channel as a head from simpler times. Sometimes trying to mix technology from today with things of the past doesn't yield positive results. I know my DR isn't "vintage" by any means, but it is much simpler than the super computers that the 3 channel rectos are... but the loop on the new ones is much more solid.

That's pretty much what I was thinking.
:D Good thing I own a repair shop that specializes in Mesa mods!!!

I'm thinking about upgrading the Loop's circuit to that of the Heartbreaker.
It's completely reversible and sounds so much better!

My Tremoverb was the exact same way. It was an early model and must have had the same loop.
My G-System sounds incredible through my DC-5, but terrible through my DR.
