I have a Mark IV A and it is apparent that someone has put it in a new head shell. The amp may have originally come out of a combo and someone bought the shell new, but I don't know for sure. In any case, I am wanting to trade someone this MINT new style all black head shell for a MINT older style head shell with the metal corner guards.

This may seem odd, but my reasoning is because all 3 of my 1x12 cabs have the older style tolex and metal corners and the head amp has the newer stile tolex and black leather corners. It just bothers me for some reason that the shell is so apparently different.

Like I said, the shell is in MINT condition. I would prefer to do this somewhat locally if possible since I have no experience taking the amp out of the head shell. It just seems safer and easier to have both heads at the same place and to be able to transfer the amp from one shell to the next with the participating party present. Let me know if someone is interested or if they have any better ideas for what to do and how to do it!

Thanks,
Adam

That amp used to be mine and it did have the head case replaced. The original was used and I bought that new head case for another use which didn't work out. This head case still had the tags on it when I purchased it so it is in amazing condition.

Hey Tim, thanks for chiming in! I figured that was what happened with it.

If I can find a head shell from the same era as the amp (90 - 94ish) in as good condition as it's current shell then I'll trade it out. Otherwise, I'll hang on to it coz she's a beaut!

Yep! It looks like this:

Mine has the classic 'Boogie' logo on the grille instead of the newer 'Mesa/Boogie' logo. The badge can be ordered from Mesa if you need the newer style logo instead. And it also has chrome hardware for the handle instead of black. It must have been replaced at some point.

I'm at work otherwise I would take a picture of the actual head, but I think you get the idea. If you want some pictures, i'll try to take some this weekend, just let me know...

As far as taking the chassis out, thats very easy. Basically you just take off the 4 screws on top, cradle the chassis, and pull it out. Now, Im running my .50 cal + with older style tolex and metal corners with a newer style vertical recto 2x12 with new style tolex/leather corners (sounds like i have the exact opposite as you). If this is the headshell you are looking for, Id be interested:

Also, where is the reverb tank on your IV? Let me know. Thanks.

Mine does have metal corners, are you looking for old tolex and leather corners? Ill take a close up pic in a few minutes.

Oh, I see. Black metal instead of nickel or chrome or whatever...

Where are you located? Can you take some more pics of the head shell? I will do the same...

Adam

Im near New Orleans, and I will take more pics of the shell. Is the reverb tank in the mark IV inside the chassis or outside?

Very nice! Here's mine:

It looks a little blue in the pics for some reason, but I assure you it is black. Haha.

I'm not exactly sure where the tank is, to tell you the truth! What does it look like? (anyone with a Mark IV feel free to chime in!)

Nice. That would match perfect with my Vertical Recto 2x12. Do me a favor and measure the opening (ie, the face panel length) just so we know we are spot on. What happens next is up to you. UPS is a 2 day turnaround from Louisiana to Tennessee. Oh, and the reverb tank question, where is it located?

I actually went back and edited my previous post to answer the reverb tank question... I'm not exactly sure where the tank is! What am I looking for specifically?
