So, I have been spending time at my parent's house in CT recovering from surgery. My wife nearly burned my townhouse in chicago... and quite possibly the neighbors too. She was getting in bed and for whatever reason decided to light a candle and place it on a night table. She jumped into bed, and after a few min, she said it was getting bright in the room. the comforter was on fire... so she tried to stomp it out. didn't work. she threw the comforter in the shower to douse it, but the bed lit up. tried with the pillow to stop it, didn't work, so she grabbed the wet comforter to smother it. All this while she's naked and hysterical I'm sure. I'm thankful that she is totally fine, and she also put the fire out. now my tub is burned, carpet, and bed. Considering I'm disabled, it puts stuff in perspective, so I don't care about the stuff damaged, but I am a bit upset at her moment of stupidity. Months ago, I even tried to explain how to use a fire extinguisher, but she thought I was being silly. All this when I am likely to sell an already devalued from the "market conditions" or maybe rent it for a year while i recover. Fu@k me. I know others have it worse, and my life is great, but Sheesh! just kind of mixed feelings now...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

We've been having a similar string of circumstances around here.

We found a place in TO to rent right before going to Manitoba for holidays. We moved most of our stuff into the house and stored the rest of it in a secure location. When we arrived back in TO 3 weeks later, we discovered that mice had gotten into all our stuff in the house. There was mouse sh!t everywhere!!. The house was very dirty but we set about cleaning it up.
We found many things in the house were broken and the place was generally in a state of disrepair. Two elements on the stove were not working; the fridge was broken and dirty; the cupboard below the sink was covered in crap and there was a dead mouse stuck in what looked like grease, stinking to high heaven. Light switches and outlets were missing covers; there was no knob on the door; the smoke alarm was broken . . . and the list goes on. I got permission from the owners to do whatever work I was capable of so I set about mending the mouse holes, installing light switch covers, and putting a new knob on the front door.

We had a meeting with the owners last night to discuss these things and all was well, or so we thought. While we were out getting pizza, a couple of thugs decided to break in and jack some of our stuff. Luckily, only a Digital Camera, PS3, HDTV, and Laundry money were missing. The PS3 and HDTV both belonged to the owners, otherwise I would have sold them to pay for an Electra Dyne a LONG time ago!! Strangely enough, all the gear I had in the house was completely untouched. The bandits didn't even go in that room!

So only NOW we find out that we are living in an area known for Break and Enters. When we got here (living down the street in a basement), we were told that it was incredibly safe. The lady we were staying with didn't even lock here doors. Oh well, time to get insurance, and an alarm!!

Not mention a firearm.

As far as the fire. Don't get me started on spousal stupidity. Some of the things my wife does just drives me to the brink of suicide. There are days I wonder if she even understands english. It seems to never fail, if I give her a reason not to do something, or an example of why it is a bad idea and she then goes ahead anyway. It always seems to end up in disaster and I have to fight to not say I told you so.

wow, sucks, same thing happened to me in my early 20's still have scars on my hands, thank god she is ok

My wife drove through the garage door last month, just missing a stack of gear I have piled up from our last gig. We have also had our share of fire scares and near miss situations, but nobody got hurt, so I am grateful for that.
So I take it that this is going to be a lesson learned about candles in the bedroom?
Get well soon!

+1 All an alarm is good for is to warn you that the killer is in the house.
