WTB Mesa half-back 4x12 w/ metal grill.

Yup, I know it is a long shot, but I am looking for an older Mesa 4x12 1/2 back with metal grill. Let me know what you have... leads to people selling them are also welcome 8)

...I am still kicking myself for not grabbing one in a local music store for $350

Saw one at the Geartrader in Huntington Beach, CA. It was custom loaded with all Celestion V30's. It was in pretty good condition.

Hey Dave, if you can, get one loaded with MC90's up top, and the EVM 12L's down low. Those cabs came loaded in one of 4 configurations.


2 MC90's up top.
2 Black Shadow 50 watters by Eminence down low.


4 MC90's


2 MC90's
2 EVM's

4 EVM's Imagine the weight of that sucker.


A lot of times people don't even know what they have loaded in the bottom because it's closed back and people are too lazy to check. I wouldn't bother with V30' in these cabs. The one with the 2 MC90's and 2 EVM's sounds KILLER.

Don't give up. These things pop up all the time, people get tired of picking them up and carrying them. Check local ads, and classifieds like Craigslist every day.

Hey danyeo, 5 driver optons, they also came with 2 MC-90's and 2 Eminence 150 watt MS-12's (which I have in my halfback)

I've had 4 out of 5 combinations in all the hb's I owned and yeah, the all EV roadready hb cab was a MONSTER but sounded KILLER ! :twisted:

There's a 4 x12 halfback on ebay right now, local pickup in Cleveland I think........good luck and I'll keep my eyes open.

I saw the one on ebay...If I lived closer I would grab it. I have a line on one locally loaded with 4 black shadows. It costs the same as the ebay cab. I would love to grab both 8) I am still on the look-out as well. Thanks guys.

The weird thing is that I have 12 Marshall 4x12's and seem to find them all the time, yet I am having a heck of a time getting the old Mesa cabs. Either people horde them or there aint too many around. :wink:

Mesa actually made a ton of these starting in the 80's through the mid 90's. I tend to think that people do hang on to these as they are a GREAT sounding cab, the best IMHO !
Even so, they do pop up all the time, you just have to keep an eye out.

I had one in this config, and while they're not as desireable as the other configs, I wouldn't say it "kinda blew".

mine did, it had absolutely no bottom end, I even closed up the top, those speakers sucked for me.

Cool. I actually grabbed the $229 cab. I talked them down to $200 plus shipping of only $25 and tax. Cost me $240. They said that there is new celestions in the top and stock speakers on the bottom....either EV or Black shadows. Either way, I have a ton of speakers at my house I could load in. 8)

I thought the shipping was gonna kill me...but the guy and the store manager said the shipping was only $25. As far as I am concerened, the transaction is complete. 8)

Half Back cabinets rule. I had two... sold my block metal grille 4x12 top with 90/110 BS. it was completely a different sound from my diamond grill bottom 4x12

Nothing beats a Triple Rect through the Half Back...

It is a nice balanced tone and it is pretty open and can go from clean to searing distortion..
