Okay guys - I'm thinking about converting my 2x12 Road King combo into a head and cab. From your experience, how much should I expect to pay to do this? And does anyone have or know of a good place to get a head shell? Any other tips?

Thanks!

You'll have to have one custom-made if you want to keep your chassis oriented so that you can read the labels.

A Mesa cab will run $299 and shipping minimum, but your chassis will be upside-down.

Any idea how much custom ordering a head shell can cost? Is it maybe cheaper to try to sell the combo and buy a head and cab?

I doubt that Mesa would make one. There are any number of guys that do custom jobs, and they'd probably be a lot less than $300.

But if it were me I'd sell and buy a head.

So when guys convert their Mark IV combos to heads, they're using custom shells? (Or does Mesa make Mark IV head shells?)

i'm pretty sure the Mesa factory will take orders for anything in the catalog.

most people are using mesa's Mark IV head shells, there's just no issue of inverting the chassis with Marks, the tubes face downward in both the combo and head
