Hi All,

I may be interested in purchasing an older 2-channel Dual Rec to add into my rig. Looking for one of the older Blackface specifically, but would entertain the thought of the chrome grill at reasonable price. If you have one your looking to let go, I have some cash for you. Post here or PM me the price. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

I have 3 pre-500 rectos (one revD and 2 rev Cs) I'm going to put one of the 2 Cs for sale. Would you be interested ??
black face on black chassis,
rev C #29
i would let it go for about 1800$
4 Mesa El34s
4 Russian 12 ax-7 and one new and never used vintage made in Usa sylvania 12ax-7 in V1
I don't have the rectifiers, i never use them so i never had any in the amp

i live in Quebec, Canada, it should cost about 125$ to ship to you if you're in the US

So, $1,800+$125 throws me at $1,925. Hmm, seems a bit high for me to justify that kind of cost on the 2-channel when I could just get an early 2-channel chrome for a $1,000 less with the same tone. Maybe I need not be looking at the Blackface if this is the case.

He wants $1,800 for his amp because it is a Rev C which was within the first 100 of the Dual Recs ever made. No, you will NOT get that tone for under $1,000. The later Rev F and Gs are the more typical two channel tone although there are subtle differences between them. Some of these were blackface as well and you could probably get them for a lot less than the $1,800 the guy is asking for. It depends what you WANT.
The Rev C is a DIFFERENT tone and is much more articulate. Think 'shredder' tone. From the videos I have heard, they sound more like a Soldano SLO than the later ones. The cleans also suck.

-I hope this helps. I was tempted to unload my Dual for an Electra Dyne head but I like it too much and I'll miss it. I agree, the blackface is definitely MY favourite look for a Recto.

Well, if you are interested in a 2009 Roadster head, I've got a like-new, mint one listed for $1550 right now. And, I would be willing to drive it to you as well, seeing that I am not that far away from you. Just something to think about, considering the versatility and popularity of the Roadster and its ability to cop darker and brighter tones. Transferrable warranty too (until 2014), of course.

Yellowjacket, thanks for the info. Many years ago I played some of the older Dual Rec's when they first came out, definitely a different amp then the later Rec I owned. Although I definitely don't remember any sounding smooth enough to be considered a 'shredder' amp (especially playing the Mark series amps at the time ) but as you explained, nice and tight and very articulate, though.

Is there any recordings around here of the older Rev. C's?? I'd like to get schooled again. 8)

I've been thinking about the Roadster as well, but I'm still sniffin' around. I'll get back to you if I decide to make up my mind on the Roadster. I will get those lovely cleans though, which has been moving the Roadster closer to the top of the list.
