Hi all,

I thought I had an issue with my crappy mesa stock tubes in my dual rectifier see: http://forum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?t=27739

But then I noticed I had my FX loop switched to ON without anything plugged in, will this be what was sucking my tone? It sounds a bit better now, but ya never know if its all in your head y'know placebo-like

You should have the fx loop on to use the solo/output controls, but adjust/increase the send level control on the back as you get a volume drop otherwise.

Were you just extrapolating that from my thread about volume dropouts, or is it just common knowledge? Someone suggested it but the spirit of the comment wasn't like "gosh everyone knows this!" so I'm curious where you got that from.

It's common knowledge to all who read their user manuals !!!
In fact it's one of the first things in it under the hints and tips bit !! :D

I wish they would have thought to put that in the Roadster manual as well. Having a Roadster I never bothered to look at the Dual Rec manuals :( There's possibly a small mention of it but it's embedded in the text about the Solo feature but this is all I can find:
Slightly annoying manual said:
SOLO: This control is an additional output control wired in parallel with the main OUTPUT that you can pre-set to a higher level
and then switch to during performances. A simple idea that adds amazing potential to virtually any sound in the amplifi er. Like the
OUTPUT control, SOLO gets its signal from the EFFECTS RETURN jack and therefore it is only
in the signal path and active when the EFFECTS LOOP is set to LOOP SYSTEM IN. This control
may be used to step out for a solo or to compensate for other volume drops created by various
switching scenarios.
One might be a processor that you love the sound of, but steals gain from
your signal when introduced via the LOOP. However you choose to use this valuable feature,
SOLO adds power and versatility to an already mighty package.
I'm pretty sure they're just talking about just using the SOLO switch to give more volume if it's too low or whatever so that's probably not even relevant.

Ah well, thanks for pointing it out!
