say one person has a mark IVB short head and another person has a IIC+ combo. Will the IV chassis fit into that combo and vice versa?

Thanks.

thats not a problem. But as long as it fits thats all that matters.

I do not believe they will fit. Well physically, they will but the mounting holes between a mark IV and mark 3 down are slightly different. I recently just bought the mark IV case off the member here hoping to put my mark 2 in it but the holes do not match. The mark IV mounting holes are in slightly more.

My Mark IV short fits in both Mark III and Mark IV short head and combo cases.

Not crappy info. I wasn't able to install a mark 2A into a mark 4 head case so in my personal experience that happened just last week, it wouldn't work. The chassis are the same width but the mark 4 holes sit further in from the sides. The rack kit that the mark 2 has on it has holes for both sizes so works with any of them. I have pictures showing the differences, I'll try to get links to them.

the IIA and earlier had different mounts. IIB up through IV are the same I believe

OK, let me try to link to them and you can see at least on the amps I had the difference in hole placement.

Try that.

I just looked at pictures of my old mark 3 and its holes were further out too so I think he is right about the 2A and back. Now I know.

My source said that the early MkIIB, IIA and original MkI have wider chassis mounting holes (Fender pattern) than the later ones. I have the MkI which has a wider mounting pattern than my MkIIC+'s.
