You answered your own question so it seems.....They are the "tube of choice". 8)
I use them in my Ace and I love 'em....but I only need 2 at a time! :p

I have used JJ and I liked the tone, but had reliability issues with them. It seems you have to pick a bit colder rating on them to avoid issues. I used a rating of "39" from Tube Depot and they redplated right after the warranty expired (I will say TD exchanged them anyway....that's customer service!)
You may want to go with a "30" or less rating to avoid the problem I had.....can't say for sure though, I switched to SED =C= right after that (better clarity than the JJ, IMO).

But the JJ's did sound good to me...you may want to try 'em and you'll save $.

Good luck with that! :)

Hey
I am intrested in these SED winged c's. How do they work for high gain? Iv'e been reading good things about them. I 'm using the Ace Head with the stock tubes and they sound good right now , but may want to change... and check out the SED's to warm up the cleans just a bit, with still keeping the nice break up in tite gain mode that I have now.

I find they have more clarity...the texture of every note is more apparent. Hard to describe otherwise, really. You would have to try to see for yourself.
All modes sound better with these, IMO. :D

My bandmate runs =C= EL34s in his roadster and it really cut down the "boominess". They are very clear and focused. It might be worth trying JJ's since they tend to be a pretty "warm" tube with a fair bit of low end for an EL34, and don't most of you Stiletto guys want a little more low end?

I have definitely had issues with JJs wearing out fast, though. =C='s may be cheaper in the long run.

Just ordered a set of EL34 Winged C's and am hoping for good things. Been a 6L6 guy for a long time, but after having my Recto modified the bass is off the charts! I have fried a 4x12 already due to not realizing how the bass would respond once modded. And I only had it at noon!!!!

While your results may differ somewhat, I definitely notice a drop in low end output with el34 vs 6l6. So they may be just the ticket for your particular amp.
Good luck :D

WOW! The Winged C's are incredible tubes!! They did indeed lessen the low end voicing, but everything is still very much present in the mix. Awesome!!!!

just put a quad of 6l6s in my mark IV..after only an hour use they were already kickin some ass..can't wait to break these bad boys in and grab myself a 4x12!

I am using the amp to record some scratch tracks at the practice space and they sound great. Cut really well, even after I turned down the mids to about 11:00.

Count me in. I purchased SED Winged-C 6L6GC for my Heartbreaker and was floored by the tone compared to the new JJs I had in it. I did get TAD 7025-S for the preamp so that may be something to add with a balanced TAD 7025-S for the PI. However, I ordered the Winged-C tubes for a comparable Mesa Green rating due to my likes. It was like night and day with the headroom, the clarity, the ability to let the attack on the strings and guitars' volume knobs do the extra mojo work (I used my LP and my Baker Sunday during Worship while throwing in my Lyle Mandolin with no loss of tecture in the sound) for the crunch or clean or airy sound.

I will be purchasing a set of Winged-C for my Mark III Simulclass next then my Fender 75 since Winged-C doesn't make a 6BQ5.

PS: Did I mention I really liked the Winged-C tubes :?:

Not too sure about the EL34 variant, but I've tried the 6L6 variant, and they are arguably the best current production 6L6s out there in the market...

I love the Winged C's. I definitely agree with the more clarity thing. I run two =C= 6L6's and two =C= EL34's in my C+, and it does wonders for the tone.

So, I am curious what the =C= 6L6s offer over the standard Mesa 6L6's besides "clarity" which has already been mentioned. I have a MarkV and I feel it is already pretty articulate. Does the distortion/breakup characteristics change any?

I do not think I (or anyone) can really accurately describe the improvement =C='s have over most other tubes. I say most because I have not tried everything out there or for that matter have not tried Mesa's very latest batch of tubes, either.

But compared to others I have tried (Sovtek, EH, Mesa, GT, re issue Mullard, JJ), I can say it is not unlike putting a blanket over your speaker (other tubes) and then pulling it off (=C=).

Point of distortion/breakup is not the big difference (to my ears).

But you won't know until you try.
Don't want to spend the money? OK then....Mesas are fine tubes (but fine and excellent are not the same thing).

Good luck! :D

I've used mostly JJE34L and JJKT77 for a while. I have had some =C= in a Marshall that I liked (I believe it was the 2205 Morello head I had).

I have learned the following two things matter a lot when considering power tubes (and for me it's always the EL34 family!):

1) how loud are you cranking the masters/output?

2) how are you setting the EQ in your preamp tone stack?

The louder you crank, the more power tube distortion you'll get and the faster the power tubes will wear out. I recall the Stiletto Deuce II being somewhat nasally (and not boomy at all) so use a 1960B cab or similar for more bass.

JJ's have been very reliable for me at extremely high volume (preamp 10 and master past noon). Use what works for you.

btw, does =C= come in an equivalent to JJE34L (more bass response in E34L compared to standard JJ EL34s)?
