I've been trying to use pedals, but just don't like having a bunch of crap on the floor.

I sold my G-Major a few months ago, and am sort of missing it now.

Amps I'm using:
Heartbreaker (nicely modified)
DC-10
DC-3

Guitars:
PRS Custom 22 w/Duncan Alnico II & Custom 5 pups
PRS McCarty stock
US 50th Anniv Strat Deluxe w/Rio Grande Mid Bottom pup set

Needs:
Channel switching/relay switching
Delay
Chorus
????
Don't care about Reverb
Super quiet
No glitch between presets
Midi controllable
ABSOLUTELY NO PREAMP OR AMP MODDELLING!

I've had a G-Major and thought it was ok, but most of the presets sounded similar and there was a drastic volume difference between some of the presets.

My favorite so far has been the Roland GP-101, but there was no way to turn off the Preamp and I don't want to use any type of Preamp, only effects.

What do you guys use?????

sounds like all you needed to do was edit the presets. level differences between patches on a single unit should never be an issue, especially if there is no preamp involved.

personally the only reasonbly priced unit that will do everything you need is the g-major, but i could be wrong.

That's why I'm asking. It's been years since I really sat down with a processor and tweaked it.

I talked to a friend, guitar teacher at the local college, he really likes my old G-Major and his Rocktron Replifex.

He says that the Replifex is easier to program, but the G-Major has more to offer.

Keep em coming.

i would recommend the rocktron xpression, but i dont think it can switch amp channels. i own the xpression and g-major, i find the tones to be just as useful as the other, but i just prefer the interface on the g-major.

The AxeFx is a killer unit, but it's pricy. It just came out about a year ago or so. So there is waiting list for it, but it does produce some amazing sounds. It comes in two styles. One is strictly an effects unit, and the other has modeling capabilities as well.

Adding up what it will cost me this week for T-Rex delay and reverb, plus an AnalogMan Chorus, it's nearing $1,100. They're all top-rated in tone and quality.

Comparatively, the G-Major is a bargain and much more flexible with regards to presets, channel switching etc.. What's freaking me out on the G-Major right now are the 100+ not so good Harmony Central reviews on reliability.

Any reliability issues from users here?

Thanks!

When I first got mine off of ebay it would randomly freeze up on startup, but all it took was a reset and it's worked fine since. Minor issues can also come across as big problems depending on who's writing the review and their knowledge of midi, settings, etc. One thing I love about the G-Major is that it can go to extremes in the settings, if you want some wacked out effects going on, it can do it no problem. It's also so transparent compared to lots of the units I've used, so I think the pro's outways the might-be cons by a longshot. It's also not a plug and play unit, you definitely need to know/learn how to program it and make sure all the levels are set on each setting.

If that's the case, might want to look into the G-Force instead. That is if you really want a rack unit. Nothing wrong with having a bunch of stomp boxes, which you can keep on a rack shelf if you wanted to with the use of a switcher.

Something like this perhaps.......
