I've had my 5:50 for a few months now... I really love it! But what's up w/ #2 channel. To my ears it's kinda thin and lifeless. Sure it has more gain but, it seems like there's more highs & less bass. Is it voiced this way?
Since I bought it (new) there's been two times I recall playing it and if I'm not mistaken, the tone changed while in the middle of a note. Also, I noticed yesterday that when in the Burn mode (maybe the Blues mode too, but not as noticable), it will make a slight popping sound when I flip the Clean/Crunch switch. Seems like it shouldn't make any sound because I'm on the other channel. One more observation, I noticed when I wiggle the tube in V2 it makes a staticy sound. I swapped tubes w/ v5 and it acts the same way. Tubes in any other socket do not make any noise when wiggeled.
I'm wondering if it needs a trip to the service tech.
Thanks

If you are certain that you are getting noise from the socket and not the tube, then that sounds like your problem (poor or intermittant connection). How handy are you with a soldering iron? If not, then you may want to take it to a tech.

On second thought, the preamp tubes are PCB-mounted IIRC ...you may be better off taking it in to a pro (who knows Boogies!).

V2 is the very first tube receiving the signal and therefore the most sensitive to any and all noise, mechanical vibration, and wiggling. Anything introduced here gets amplified 100s of times as the signal moves down the chain. This is normal, unless it happens when you're playing loudly and not wiggling the tube.
And... most Lead or Overdrive channels/ pedals, etc. cut low end as distorted bass frequencies sound "flubby" and blurry. It's the big reason Tubescreamer-type pedals sound like they have too much mid-range and not enough bottom.
But the tone cuts through the mix better in a band situation.
Hope this helps :D
