Would you hook up a 16 cab into a 8ohm input and 8ohm cab into a 4ohm input on one amp..OR...Chain them together for a total impedance of 5.3333~ into one 4ohm input?
I would (and do) use seperate speaker jacks. 'Chaining' them together in parallel may cause some volume/response issues, like putting mixed impedence speakers in the same cabinet, to one common jack. With my Roadster, the 8 ohm and 4 ohm jacks are seperate Output Transformer taps designed for different impedences.
Even the Roadster manual shows their option of a safe mis-match with an 8 and 16 ohm cab:
Besides, if it's good enough for Randall Smith, it's good enough for me !
