what height from the floor do you keep your 2x12" at, whithout having the highs killing your ears but being able to hear yourself in a clear way and having a good tone?
Guitar speakers are very directional and usually sound too piercing when pointed directly at your ears. This is why I hate being in the crowd of a loud ass band because the guitar amps usually kill my ears with the piercing highs. Maybe if you have the cab vertical it would be good enough for you. This way you maintain contact with the ground which allows better interaction with the floor and walls for better bass response. I have a vertical 212 with the top speaker being angled upward and I find it is a good compromise.
I have a marshall 2x12 and I always have it vertical...just easier to hear. But the cab NEEDS to be on the floor for best bass response when yer playing....imo
The lower your cab to the floor the more highs your gonna put in your amp to make it sound good to YOUR ears.....but out front it will probably sound like hammered s*^t to your audience and alot of times putting the cab on the floor will make your low end "woof".
I set my cab as close to ear level as i can get 'cause it sounds better and the amp is easier to tweak that way.
I hire two bums to hold my cabinet, I pay them in boxed wine.
I would guess my cab is about 2 1/2 feet off the ground , till they go for a drink, then its face down on the floor, the cab and the bums.
