Last night i was playing on channel 1 when my head started acting bizarre.

There was a mechanical clicking sound coming from the inside/back of the head almost as if the power/standby switch was flaking out. the sound was also cutting in and out. it kept doing it, then i changed to channel 2 on the footswitch and it stopped. went back to channel 1 and it was fine for the rest of the evening.

has anyone had this happen to them before?

Hmmm very strange. It wasn't the mute clicking on and off was it? I had a similar issue where the mute just engaged without me asking to . I realised it was the RJM interface cable causing the issue. I had no clicking sound though. Have you checked the foot switch cable? Unless is was a switching relay having a fit. Could be possible I suppose. Might be worth contacting Mesa just to be sure.

Yeah my first thought was a flakey/intermittent cable connection, but I wasn't able to reproduce it.

It's probably the cable connection. Sometimes it happens if you kick the footswitch or step on the cable. Stepping on channel 2 may have jarred the connector back in enough to fix it.

Sounds like a footswtich cable is triggering the relays. The next time it happens just pull the footswitch cable from the back of the amp. If the noise stops, it's the cable connection. I had a night where this happened when I first got the amp.
