I've noticed that even with the send/return on my G Major unit near maxed out (both around 3pm), the volume is lower generally speaking with fx loop engaged than w/ efx loop bypassed.

There is some "coloring" of the signal/tone in a degrading way at loud volumes.

How many of you M5 owners prefer to run w/o efx and maybe just the built-in reverb or efx into the preamp?

I run a G Major in the loop of my MV and I'm gettin some great tones that aren't hardly noticeable when your kinda cranked up. With the volume down, yea you can hear the different hue color to the amp though. I really wish I could get that FX bypass sound with the loop engaged still but the tone is hardly noticeable after awhile. I also have my G major with the Output nearly maxed. Outputs at 3 o'clock and and Inputs at a little under 12 o'clock. And my amp FX send knob is a little under 12 o'clock.

Have you messed around with the G major's internal levels and outputs of each patch? Just remember it come factory with the individual patch levels at -6. I have learned from everybody that you gotta turn all your levels on each patch from -6 to 0 (unity gain).

But yea you really cant beat the good ol' sound of a Mesa raw without the loop. But you definitely can get some super good tones with the G major in the loop. Let me know if you got any questions.

thx for the help. the Individual patch level is preset @ -6? I think I had looked at a lot of the config stuff for this initially but can you change and save that for the pre-existing (factory) settings? meaning do you have to create new patches when you change that -6 to something else?

anyways, i've noticed that sometimes the levels on the front indicator for the dB goes "red" (i.e. above 0 dB) but I've had the knobs set at both ~3pm for input and output on the G major front.

it's also a major pain if you play live (i don't) b/c the levels all change for each preset.

if I played live, i'd probably have a floor board with boxes and "do the dance" and that way you can easily add or remove chorus. I only use a few effects honestly.

at one point I had the midi controller working with both the g major and the jmp1 marshall unit.

i bring way too much stuff to the studio for one guy w/o a band. i'd like to minimize but it gets boring with no efx.

btw, how would i check the individual patch level for dB? i'm guessing it's not a global setting.

i think the compressor in #27 (wide chorus) allows me to get the pinched harmonics out much easier. or maybe it's a combo of efx in that patch.

I forgot exactly how to check the individual patch volumes but Im sure its in the manual. You might be about to see the main volume from -6 to 0 in Levels All button. and in the I/O button make sure at set your output RNG to 8 and your DIG in gain to 0db, and make sure its on Consumer rather than pro. Pro is for more line level equipment like using as an outboard processor in studio. And in Levels all make sure everything's at 0db and then check each patch to make sure.

I would turn the input know on Gmajor to noon. I cant even get mine past noon without going in the red on clean channel. Got my output knob set to 3.

There in no way to get rid of all the color the Gmajor does to the Mark V but you can get very close.
