As Mesa amps are biased for mes valves, can other makes make the amp run too hot, cold etc?

If I was to go with another make I have read on hundreds of forums, (not Mesa) that JJ are the overall best of the new valves. Would these run the amp the same or change the hot and cold?

It's more like Mesa tubes are selected to run in Mesa fixed-bias amp. I don't think it's the amp that will run too hot but rather the tubes. Each amp has a different idle plate current draw. It's important to make sure that a tube's operating range falls within the amps range. If the tube is rated lower than the amp, the tube will wear out quickly..or possibly worse. If a tube is rated higher than the amp, I'm guessing it will rob some tone.

JJ's will work in Mesas. Make sure you tell the retailer which Mesa amp the tubes are for. A good vendor will know which tubes will provide early breakup or more headroom. Doug's, Eurotubes, and others can do this.

I do have to say, I disagree about the part being that JJs are the best overall valves...

Of course, listening to tubes is a real subjective thing. I can say that the JJs I used were the best I've ever had. Also, I've had two amp techs swear by them. But really, to each their own.
