V-Twin vs. Formula

Does anyone have any experience in comparing the V-Twin and Formula preamps? I have a rackmount Mark IIc, and am looking to augment it with an additional dirty channel. A Recto pre would be cool, but it is expensive and takes 2U, a lot of space to use for just one channel.

I want a high-gain rhythm sound, still in the vein of the Mark series. Any thoughts?

Also, any comparison of either with the Engl 530 would be helpful.
