I was finally able to use my Mark V at rehearsal last night at a (very) loud volume. I have some observations/questions/concerns to ask you guys about:

I happened to be running the head on top of two Recto 2x12 (horiz) cabs w/ V30's. When I turned up loud to band volume there was a lot of high end. Too much, so I turned my bass knob all the way off, had my preset EQ knob at noon to diffuse the harsh frequencies.

I'm trying a different amp next week like my Roadster or Mark IV to see if it might be the room (concrete floors, basically a storage facility/band room). I could not dial out the high end.

My question to you guys is, where do you run your channel volumes? I usually run my lead at 9-10 o'clock. It occurred to me this morning that if I turned that up it might have smoothed things out. Can anyone weigh in here with their opinions?

Not sure if the V will translate but when I open up the IV i dial back the gain and drive 2 clicks
and the treble about 2-3. I also drop the last 2 sliders down to about half way between mid and the top line.
Channel volume ill run about 3-4 and get the overall volume with the master.

Seems to balance out pretty good for my taste.

Thanks John. On my Mark IV, I do something similar (not as much as you though) and it sounded fine. Thanks for the info. I'm starting to think that this is one of those things we need to "find our way" with on the V. Would be interested to hear any experiences with the V playing at loud volume.

One big limitation I think is going to be the fact that you dont have a drive control anymore. So if you scale
the gain back too much you are going to lose saturation and sizzle. Might have to do that though to control
the top and then use some kind of pedal to add the tone back in.

Dunno...Experiment. ;)
