After almost two decades between purchasing a Mesa amp, the first was a stiletto deuce. I decided to get a multi watt while still available. The first came last sat and had a very audible ticking coming from it. After checking the tubes and contacting Mesa I was told I’d need to send it in for warranty work. I called Gibson and sent it back for a refund and purchased another at that time which arrived yesterday. I’m batting a thousand so far this one came missing the footswitch. I’ve yet play with it but am hoping that after a rough start it will fill the spot the stiletto has not.

Set the rear rotary knob to a channel on the back. Connect to cabinet and see if it makes the same clicking noise.

I can hear some noise in the Rectifier tubes when you first power up the amp while it is in standby mode. Amp will power up with the tube rectifiers being the diode source. The relay that sets the diode rectification will pick up shortly there after. However, it is common to hear some whooshing sounds from the rectifier tubes. After you posted the ticking issue. I pulled out the MWDR mostly for a tube roll to find out what alternates there are to the STR440 tube as mine is a 2018 model. While it was warming up, I can hear the hum of the power transformer, but there is also this slight whooshing sound coming from the tube rectifiers. I did not hear anything from the power tubes though. This was the last set of tubes I rolled with. STR445 yellow. Very close to the STR440 greys that were stock with mine.

Here is a recording of the sound I was experiencing.
