About to trade for a DC-5 head. The owner says he has never changed the tubes in it. He said he has had the amp for 6 years. And he uses the amp regularly. So changing the tubes will be the first order of business for me. What are you guys running in your DC's?

I'm a big fan of the JJs in DCs, Fs, and Stilettos. I run all JJs in my DC-3 and they sound excellent!
Are you getting them from eurotubes?

I have a combination of ruby tube 6l6s and one ruby 12ax7 in i think v1. The rest of the 12ax7s are tungsol.
Compared to the previous set up of groove tube power tubes, and electro harmonix preamp tubes there is alot more fullness to notes, and they have an airy quality as opposed to the flat sound of the old ones.

I've used nothing but Mesa/Boogie tubes in my DC-5 since 1990 when I bought it. I have never been "really" happy with them. I just ordered a complete retube set from Eurotubes.

This is what I ordered:

Mesa DC5 Full Retube Kit - ECC803S V1 Option
Price: 98.50
Description: A matched pair of JJ 6L6GC's for the power section. A JJ ECC803S for V1 for a little lower gain with big thick mids and a little more sparkle in the highs. Four standard ECC83S's for V2 thru V5 and a balanced ECC83S for the phase inverter in V6. A warm full tone with a little more headroom in the clean channel.

I will let you all know what's up when I get them and get them in the Boogie.

I am hoping they will give the DC-5 new life.

Just don't waste your dough Groove Tubes!

I've never used Groove Tubes, but I had a feeling they are junk. Not sure why, maybe it came to me in a dream.

Alright...installed the tubes today. First thing that happened was my fuse blew (within about 5 min). Called Eurotubes...they were helpful. They instructed me to inspect the tubes, but I did that before I installed them...inspected them again anyway...seemed fine. Eurotubes also mentioned that it's possible that my fuse, over some time, may have gotten used to carrying a lighter load, and when I put all new tubes in, the fuse said "WOOOAHHHH!" Sounds feasible to me. Off to Radio Shack...new fuse installed, working good so far, but...my FX Loop has basically no power. What I mean is, all the effects running through it are barely audible. That wasn't the case yesterday with the old tubes...what the Hell?
