Tubes and schematics

I've been looking at tube amp schematics and wondering why the tube pin numbers are not labelled in order. i.e., one schematic shows tube pins in the following order- 2, 6, 4, 8, going clockwise. Is this really how tube pins are numbered or is it done this way to make the schematic neat/clean looking?
