the 6l6 on the right doesnt come on at all...what could be the problem? the amp still sounds good - is it safe to run with only one 6l6?

If you swap tubes, does the problem follow the tube, or stay at the same socket? Those STR-440's will sometimes have cockeyed tube pins that can break a solder joint where the tube socket meets the power amp PCB. Ask me how I know. I would not want to run the amp with only one power tube operational, though.

these are brand new tubes i just put in , the problem is in the socket

i just swapped them and tried...same issue

is it an easy fix for a tech? what am i looking for as far as cost of repair?

thanks J

It's an easy fix, if you have a soldering iron and a little bit of solder. Pull the chassis and look for any suspects. If you have a multimeter, you can check for continuity between the tube socket receptacles and the traces on the power board. Send Jim a PM, he might be able to give it a look, if you don't find anything obvious.
