I have a Solo 50 head, and am wondering what tube combination I should go with for high-gain/newer metal sounds? Specifically DevilDriver/etc....

I know most of these guys use a tubescreamer ( a maxon 808 in the case of DevilDriver), but I'm also curious as to what tube combo might be most fitting....

Thanks in advance....

won't matter what tubes you use. THat amp is able to handle that style regardless of the tube lineup.

You want the quietest (lowest noise) tube possible for V1, the first preamp tube. With high gain comes high noise, keeping the noise down at the first gain stage will make things sound more musical. Using a tube with balanced triodes for your phase inverter/splitter tube will optimize the tone of the amp also. Not sure what position that is on your amp, check a schematic. Good luck.

High Gain full retube kit from eurotubes.com, I personally prefer the E34L's but they have the 6l6 set as well. They only sell JJ's, but that's what I use. Tubes are very different for everyone though, so try as many different tubes as you can afford.

Selected Chinese preamp tubes all the way. Superb gain, definition and tightness.
