i run a triple rec. 3chan. i play metal, arch enemy, lamb of god, byznatine. etc. alot of percussive, tight chugging rhythm playing. and of course soloing. at stage levels i can not attain that percussive tight chugging rhythm sound that i like. I am not cranking up past 11:30 on output. right here it sound pretty dry. it is real noticeable when the cab is lifted of the floor.

At first i tried chan 2 and chan 3 by itself on MODERN. loop bypassed.
it didnt floor me.. so i added a tube screamer for a boost. it sounded SO -SO.. but you tell that the low end was gone. either way i could nt tell what the rave was all about.

I prefer the 2nd chan MODERN for my rhythm sound. CHan 3 sounds harsh and brittle.
I am currently just using a ibanez tube screamer in front of the amp. and i Use a GMAJOR in my FX loop.

I realize that i am going to have to Sculpt my sound out.. but where do i begin?

I thought about using an EQ in the FX loop, before the GMAJOR. ? Maybe this could somehow help?
How bout running a distortion pedal in channel 1? a METALZONE? Hoping to dial in a more functional percussive tight metal sound.
should i use a compressor?
I have tried the BBE sonic maximizer. wasnt crazy about it.
I even thought about buying the digitech gsp 1101. and just use the triple rec only as a power amp..

I really want to take advantage of the triple's 2nd chan. Maybe if i set the bass around 1o'clock, mid to 11 oclock and high at 1 clock.. then use the EQ in the loop to scoop it the signal?

How do you run your triple? Settings? LOOP settings?

thanks with all your input..

Hi, I just have a Dual Rec, but I think I can help. By using a good compressor, (not one that you get at Guitar Center) like a TC, or Demeter or Carl Martin, Aya, you will tighten up your rhythm but increase your noise floor, so you will need a noise gate at high gain/volume settings. An EQ would shape your sound better before effects in the loop, and would not increase noise except for the operation of the pedal it's self. In my Dual, for the percussive chug I use channel three, modern starting with the treble and presence turned all the way down bass at 12:30 Mids at 11:30. I then set my volume and slowly bring up the treble until I get some coming through, and then bring up the presence slowly to taste. Mine is usually about 8:00 to 9:00. For more punch I'll add some more mid's, but nothing crazy. As for the loop, I just set send and return at 1:00 and for a booster I use a BB Pre Amp. Hope this helps.

do you run effects ? do you keep the loop on at all times? what effects do you run?

i use leave my loop on all times . All i have in my loop is the gmajor. it has a built in noise gate that i am using most of the time.. i also have a rocktron patchmate that has a built in noise gate. The patchmate does all my channel switching and what what few pedals i have. also it controls my Gmajor..

thanks about the info and insight on how you set your presence and highs... i will try it.. gabe

how bout the back panel? I play similar style too. Make sure you're on "Bold" and you'll probably prefer the rectifier setting on "Diodes". I generally run channels 2 & 3 on Modern somewhere around here:
Ch. 2: Treble 1:30ish, Mid 10:30ish, Bass 9:00ish and Presence around 12
Ch. 3: similar settings with little more gain and little more mids to compensate for the more 'tubby' sound this channel seems to have.
The treble control has the most control over anything. You get a lot more upper mids with that as well. For a long time I was having a hard time finding the right 'punch'. I tried EL34s thinking it was just the 6L6s not having as much mids as I'd like; but it's all to do with your EQ. That's why I generally have my treble fairly high, 2:00ish even somtimes, depending on the room.

how long have you had the dual rectifier? it took me a couple of months to "tame this beast" but once i have messed around it for a while i started to dial in to my tone.

also, i too us a TS9 as a clean boost. the first time i used it it sounded terrible! so thin and no bottom end. it was so disappointing. then i went back to it and re-dial it and it sounded great! the key was that i had the tone knob on the pedal at 12 o'clock (thin sound) and then i turned it all the way down and it became more transparent! so now i have the gain and tone all the way down and the level to match the volume (for me it's about 2 o'clock).

last, try a noise gate. it helps with the stop-n-go type style (cuts the noise nicely!).

good luck!
