I know a lot of guys that have dual recs pull out 2 tubes to make it a 50 watt head. I took 2 tubes out of my triple to make it a 100 watt head. My question is... Can I pull 2 more out? Only leaving me with 2 tubes to make it a 50??? Thanks

I asked my local amp tech about this last time I had my triple in for service and he said it was a bad idea because it puts an odd ohm load on the output transformer.

I too have been trying to get to the bottom of this. I found this article while researching the issue. I'm not saying this is gospel but may give food for thought???
Let us know what people think?

Is this true for using only 2 tubes (50W) on a dual rectifier?

It says in the manual that you can remove 2 tubes from a dual rec to reduce to 50 watts.
You can download it from the mesa sight.

Was that to go to 50 or 100watts?

Cheers

He just said pulling tubes on a triple was a bad idea period for both pulling to 50 and 100 watts.

On a dual you can pull tubes to make it 50 watts because the ohm rating goes down evenly. On a triple when you pull the tubes the ohm rating is changing by 1/3 instead of 1/2 like on a dual.
