Has anyone had good results with the Decimator and Triaxis? I can't seem to dial it in correctly, and I have tried many wiring combinations. It also was sent back to Isp once to get a mod done on it, and it didn't improve anything from what I can tell. I just have a feeling they don't work well with pre-amps and work better with just heads....

I would guess it either works or doesn't. It makes no difference if you have a preamp or head, since a head is just a preamp PLUS a power amp in one box.

It sucks, I guess I'll just sell it. My DBX does a better job than the stupid thing.

It's just a noise gate, there is no magic to it. The answer is in one of the following:

1. The unit you have is faulty.
2. You are not fully versed in the principle of noise gates.
3. You have a problem in something before your noise gate - could be your guitar wiring, preamp, effects unit - something which is raising the noise floor and making it hard to set a threshold on your Decimator.

I'm putting my rack together, and I started with just the Gtr-Tri-2:90-2 4x12 Marshall cabs. I've had the Tri for a long time, and the noise wasn't different from the way it has been in the past. My Dbx has always controlled it through the loop, but I wanted something I could set and never have to touch again....even on the clean sounds. This way I wouldn't be taking up any loops and I could free up the other Dbx channel. I added in the Isp next, so now the chain went Gtr-Isp Ch.1-Tri In-Tri Out-Isp Ch.2-Ycable to 2:90-Cabs. Right away when I turned on the Isp the noise floor went up and the unit made things even louder. I could see this being a problem, but the Isp is suppose to take care of this anyways. Listen to there demos on their website. Mine doesn't even come close to that transparency when you stop playing. The noise gate is very much heard when the playing stops....you can hear it sucking out the noise before its dead quiet again. I found out about a mod you can do to cure this on another forum awhile back and sent it in. The changeability is very little. I'm going to call Isp on Monday and see what they have to say.

You might want to try putting channel 2 of your Decimator in the FX loop rather than the outputs. The Triaxis output are very hot (unless you have them turned down very low) It could be that you are getting some surplus signal and keep tripping the threshold limit. Just a thought, you shouldn't be getting much noise to the 2nd channel provided you have channel 1 set up correctly. I've never really seen a need to have a dual noise gate setup. It's always been fine to have one for my purposes. I have never really liked the sound of a severe gate. Decimators seem to have a good reputation so I'd be surprised if you can't get it to a somewhat acceptable level.

Works perfect here. Be sure to put it in the loop, ànd to activate the loop.

no disrespect, but i am sure some of us are guilty of the post above, one time or another!! :)
