I can't even count the times I have tried new connections between my GT-6 and my Triaxis. After talking to a fellow Mesa Triaxis friend last night about some of the issues that exist in the Mesa loops, I tried a couple of new things. The end result is that I came up with something that works even better for my rack.
My old connections
Guitar --> GT-6 Input
GT-6 External Send --> Triaxis Input
Triaxis Loop Send --> GT-6 External Return
GT-6 Outputs --> Triaxis Loop Returns
Triaxis Outputs --> Power Amp Inputs
Power Amp Outputs --> Speakers
My new connections
Guitar --> GT-6 Input
GT-6 External Send --> Triaxis Input
Triaxis Loop Send --> GT-6 External Return
GT-6 Outputs --> Power Amp Inputs
Power Amp Outputs --> Speakers
SPECIAL NOTE: I changed the individual patch levels and the main output level in the GT-6. In the past I have had the main output knob set at about 50% and then adjust the patch levels to balance levels; now I have the main output level knob set to 100% and set all my patch levels roughly 25% lower. The end results were really nice, the GT-6 levels matched really well with the raw Triaxis levels! I did side by side comparisons with the raw Triaxis tone and a completely dry GT-6 tone and there wasn't any noticable tone suck on any Triaxis channel at all!!!!! Also, the GT-6 effects seemed to sound a little better this way too, more "defined" so I could turn the effects down some.
There is just something about going back into the Triaxis loop that mucks up everything a bit. This new connection method (at least new for me) seems to work really well, I can place all the effects in the right place in the signal chain using the GT-6 and I can control everything via MIDI from the GT-6. This also worked going direct to a sound board too!
I'm very pleased!
What are your thoughts on this connection method?
