anyone out there now why the reverb tanks in tremoverb combos is wrapped up in a padded fabric cocoon? is there a FUNCTIONAL reason for this, or was mesa just trying to be fancy? :?

It's to isolate the reverb springs from picking up the speaker vibration, which would then get re-amplified through the amp and cause the reverb to feed back. This does happen on some amps at high volume and reverb settings... I'm not sure I've ever had both the reverb and the volume up high at the same time on mine, so I don't know whether it's a problem with the Tremoverb or not.
