Port by Line 6. Looks decent... I'm looking to just record some riffs and crap. Will this do the job well? I'm not expecting some big fancy mix or anything... just so I can hear my ****, ya know? haha

you should get a small USB or firewire audio interface and some software instead, that way you could record with your mesa. check out m-audio and presonus interfaces. most interfaces come with some type of free recording software. i haven't tried the line 6 toneport

Well, actually, the toneport has the XLR input so i could hook up my mic... i mean, i dont think i'd use the amp simulations, maybe the effects though

Download this and hook up a mic to your PC. I wouldn't bother with the extra hardware if you just want to record things for referencing later.

You're welcome. Its been around for a while and its quality and free. Its a digital recorder so its going to sound as good as its source (mic and PCs sound device) and compression level. Any cheap mic should be fine for just recording reference.

You should be able to find a mono 1/4" plug to "headphone size" plug and adjust the slave out level for direct recording without a mic. I can't recall if the dual recto will require it, but you could replace the speaker with some sort of box that puts a load on the amp (get the right type box) and play quietly via your PCs speakers or headphones for monitor, versus just unplugging the speaker, which can damage some amps, but I think Mesas may be alright (consult manual/Mesa).

This direct or mic'ed method is fine for just instantly recording what you were just playing or layering tracks so you can reference it later.

Good luck.

As for the TonePort. It is not really a bad little box. But you have to beware that with it's USB it doesn't want to work properly with some PC's because of the chipsets. I sometimes get a bad white-noise through my clips and basically just have to start the riff again and hope it doesn't do it. It would be a good little box if they would get that under control.
