what is the difference in a mark III any stripe modded to a c+ and an actual IIc modded to a c+?
am i to assume that the IIc to c+ is closer to a full blown original IIc+?

thanks in advance

For one thing, the power transformer will be different. I also think the circuit board revision is different (i.e rp-11a)

yeah i figured it'd be different because its a II vs a III.
it'd seem like the IIc would be a closer convert to a + than a III
Bear in mind that a C+ is essentially a modded IIC, so a IIC convert IS a C+. The premium attached to a factory C+ is due to collector value. Of course, the components available during the a mid-80's conversion (caps, resistors, etc.) might have different sonic characteristics than a current conversion.

Also remember how varied these amps can sound even among identical configurations. Some here have noted they prefer their IIC conversions to their factory C+, some prefer non-simul to simul, etc.. It's all a matter of sound you're after.

I think the IIIC+ mods were centered around making the amp less bright.
Circuit wise, the amps are so similar it's hard to believe they don't sound
alike. It's all the same components yet it just does not make it. I also think
the placement of the reverb and lead channels might have something to do
with it. Notice how the MK IVA had the same preamp layout, but when the B
was introduced Mesa went back to sharing the V3 and V4 for the lead and reverb.

Bottom line is the different PCB's, Transformers etc can make enough difference in
the total scheme of things.

Dodger916's MK IIA+ is ridonculous.
