thinking about get a mesa preamp....

so i'm thinking about building a rack setup. i have all the other components....power conditioner, tuner, multi-efx unit, etc. but i need a good pre amp... i already know what power amp i want to get. probably a mesa 50/50 or a 2:90.

so what are good mesa preamps? i know the triaxis is hands down the best one out there but how are the Quad pre's and the Studio pre's? i mainly play metal/death metal but it would be nice to have some cool clean options as well. i also have a mesa triple rectifier head so i'd kind of like an amp that sounds different but still has some heaviness to it.

also, is it possible to use my mesa triple rectifier power amp to power my mesa preamp (whichever one i get)??

yes it is possible. you just run the preamp into the FX RETURN of the rectifier. that way it only uses the power section. if im not mistaken, you have to put a dummy load in the FX SEND for it to work
