This is my first attempt at a rack. This is all I've got so far, but it'll grow in the future. Nowww.... I just need to fool around with my Quad and find some really good tones on it. Would anyone happen to know some good settings off hand? :D

All I can say at this point is that when I recorded a few riffs earlier, I was astounded at how bright, responsive, and sparkly it was. I've never had as good of recordings as I have with this new Boogie rig, and I spent literally only 5 minutes recording a few things.

Yay, It works! Looks just like my setup :D The settings I now use are one of Mesas example setting... Clean Rhythm1, Grinding Rhythm2, Searing Lead1, Insane Lead2.

CH1 (R1& L1)
Volume: 7 Treble: 7 Bass: 5 Mid: 5 Master: 5 Lead Drive: 6 Lead Master: 3
CH2 (R2& L2)
Volume: 9 Treble: 8 Bass: 4 Mid: 5 Master: 5 Lead Drive: 5 Lead Master: 3

Bold = Pulled

Congrats. The Quad is a kick a$$ preamp.

That's actually the first setting I turned it all to when I looked at the manual :D

I want to experiment with different tones and see what I like best. I'm after a GREAT lead tone specifically, and of course a great metal rhythm would be nice. You seem to like metal (Cynic in your avatar), and I actually saw you say somewhere else that you can get killer gain from the quad. Can it hold up playing death metal and the like? The gain and other settings on this puppy are much different than I expected.

I'm after a really great lead, and really great, precise metal rhythm tone. Can a Quad do much for cleans? I want something that's really dreamy and glassy.

What kind of Lead tone are you looking for? Honestly, I think the Quad can do alot of what your looking for. The cleans are wonderful! They can be very glassy, or fat. Add some reverb, and chorus, maybe a tad delay... dreamy is how I would describe that sound.
IF death metal is your thing, well that just depends... Is it the new or old death metal? The Quad "stock" does the old death metal stuff well (Death's scream bloody gore album come to mind). Add a OD up front, fiddle with the eq and you could get close to the new stuff. My recto is better at the new stuff and ENGL's are the clear winners in that category, IMO. Then you have that Swedish (some American too) death metal stuff that requires a boss HM-2 in front. For that super saturated over the top gain (Entombed).

The Quad is really a bag of tricks. The gain characteristics on this preamp are very different indeed. You just have to turn knobs, drop and raise sliders and most is possible, but every amp has it limitations.

Actually, I was just curious as to if it could pull off something as high-gained as death metal. I prefer more of a tight and focused metal rhythm, like thrash. In fact, I'm dying to get those settings up for the Quad because I want to get those early Metallica rhythm tones (Lightning, Puppets, Justice).

As for lead tone, I'd say that I'd love something along the lines of Petrucci's older tone on I&W. It doesn't have to be exact, but I want something like it.

I'm debating on which channel to use on the Quad for which tone. LD1 and LD2 both sound good, but I'm not sure which one would be more suitable for leads and rhythms. I think RHY1 is the way to go for those glassy cleans, I can tell you that much. But I'm kinda torn between LD1 and LD2!

Another thing which I haven't tried yet is stacking some of those channels. I'm interested in hearing that.

LD1 with EQ in the standard "V" for Master Tones! Ride was Marshall amps.

nice looking rig, bet it sounds killer :) mirror finish on that ibanez?

If your looking for a old John Petrucci lead tone it's to be had in L1 for sure. From what I understand L1 is basically a Mark IIC+ circuit or very close to one... and that is THE legendary boogie lead tone! Now I never played a IIC+ or compared the schematics of the two, but if Mike B says so it must be true.
