Trying to figure out a way to use something like a Dr. Z Stangray for my cleans and still get the Rectifier distortion and I just thought of this - The Recto Preamp?!?! Although I don't know the first thing about it?

Is this basically the preamp section of a Dual Rectifier?? If so, I have a few questions:

1) Can it be bypassed on the fly
2) how many channels is it, just one or is it channel switchable?
3) Does a Recto pre sound good in an FX loop of a clean amp (like a Dr. Z)?
4) how does it compare to the Dual recto "orange vintage mode", can it get that nice tone? How about through an amp?

Just curious, not saying I'm going to be trading off my Roadster so quickly after getting it, but I'm just thinking out loud here.

Thanks!

1) Not sure what you mean bypassed on the fly? There is no mute function, if you put in a switcher like a Bradshaw or GCX, etc then yes.
2) 2 channels with 3 modes on each channel(like a 2 ch Dual Rectifier head.)
3) Never tried it in a clean amp but it sounds great with a Mesa 2:100 poweramp, tried 2:50, 2:90 and Marshall 9200 all good but not as good as the 2:100.
4) Ch 2 has a raw, vintage, modern switch. There is a way to set it up so it is like 3 channels. Channel 2 could be switched from Vintage to Modern with the footswitch but you must share the EQ section and you lose the Solo function.
The Recto preamp is essentially a Dual Recto but with some fancy recording stuff for direct. When plugged into a Recto 2:100 poweramp it is basically the same circuit as a Dual Recto head except with the recording out stuff and only one rectifier(solid state, no tube) no half power switch does do the Modern switch for the 2:90 and 2:100.

It is a very nice sounding preamp...I personally like the pre and 2:100 combo more than the Dual Rec head, not really liking head FX loops, prefer a switcher and line mixer. It would have been nice if they made 3 true channels on the pre but I think they designed this more for recording than live performance.
I am presently changing over from the Recto pre to a CAE 3+se(Suhr/Bradshaw) preamp but still using the 2:100...it's brutal!!!!

You'll have to let us know what u think of the CAE 3!

I used it live for the first time tonight...outstanding!!!! Tight as hell, very heavy sounding but with singing leads. Makes my guitar more responsive and easier to play. It's amazing..can't wait to play again tomorrow night.

If anyone here is looking to buy a used Recto Pre, I've got one ready to put up for sale. Recently purchased an Egnater M4 but this tone will be missed.

PM me if interested.
