i just tried putting ECC82 (AT7) in V1 and ECC81 (AU7) in position 3.

very peculiar results, i could get an AWESOME clean from CH3/extreme mode.
but CH1 was too quiet to be really useful, think maxed gain AND master on CH1 while master on 9 oclock on CH3 (For overdrive)

but its definitely something worth experimenting it.
i thought my MKV sounded fizzy compared to the Quad > 50/50 combo and i really think im going to get more AT7's because AU7 apparently has too little gain.

I am supprised your even trying an at7 in this high gain amp. Why not start with some 5751 preamp tubes. a 12ax7 is 100%, next step down 5751 is 70%. You might like this better.

thats just the thing, i wanted to kick the gain down a notch.
Well, you should be suprised i tried the AU7. CH3 really sounds wierd completely clean even at 11 o clock gain. :)

i now threw the AU7 out and put the AT7 on V3 position and i love it.
i really enjoy the crunch channel now, especially with the tube rectifier, its so heavy and and spongy with just a little overdrive.
clean is also "cleaner" and you need to push the tweed mode quite far to get it to drive.

thanks for the suggestions, ill try to get a hold of a few and do some swapping again :)

I have an at7 in V2 (crunch stage 2 gain), and love it. I prefer lower gain settings, and switching to the at7 gave me a more useable range for what I like. With the ax7, the gain came up way too quickly. I really need to try an at7 in V3, as I never run the gain on channel 3 above noon.

i think you might like it.
I'll try putting it in V2 also!
i also dont use the gain so high because its starting being fizzy
