Studio Preamp's Eq With Triaxis

Read that hetfield uses a studio preamp's eq with his triaxis, how is that possible?

Just to clarify a bit, yeah it's a custom EQ but Mesa will not say anything about it (or James' mods). It was built using a Studio preamp chassis and houses 2 5-Band EQs. 1 is always used in the active LD2 yellow triaxis and the other is for the backup triaxis.
