Hi, I just recorded this short clip with my Mesa Studio Preamp. The main riff is taken from the theme of an old rally pc game, called Death Rally. I recorded it with my Fender American Standard Stratocaster straight into the Studio pre. I used one of the recording outs straight into the soundcard (USB Soundblaster Audigy 2 NX) and then I re-recorded the part for double-tracking, no post EQ or effects added. Drums are EZDrummer plugin, bass guitar is Edirol Super Quartet plugin.

Song's name is Death Rally Theme, and it's the first in the list now:

If the link doesn't work please copy/paste the address. Tell me what do you think about the tone!

I LIKED IT!

Very nice rock tone. Hard to believe its a strat!

Can you please tell me how you made the drums? Ive been looking for a way to add drums to my songs without actually recording a real drumset. Any suggestions? (sorry to go a little off topic).

I'm glad you liked it, thanks!
For drums I used a VST instrument plugin called EZDrummer (the best I tried until now), and my working environment is Cubase 5 VST32. What you have to do is write down the drums part as a midi file, then assign that plugin to the track. I'm usign .010-.046 on my strat (it originally had .09-.042), and I think this is the main reason for a thicker and more defined tone.

Did you use a MIDI Keyboard?
no, it would be great for the dinamics, but my playing wouldn't be so tight on the beats. I just manually wrote the drums part... it takes some time, but I mainly copy/paste the two main beats and then add just some minor mods.

ytse I really did enjoy listening to it, I also took a listen to Ascesa. Both are really nice rock tones. The recording outs are not bad at all. I would think it would be full of fizz and static, your recordings are not. Good job and thanks for sharing!

Thank you MetalMatt! Yes, the recording outs are quite good even if not really that great. For high gain metal tones mic'ing the amp is way better. Keep in mind that in both clips I connected the preamp straight to my soundcard; if you use a mixer (or however a good line-preamp) in between you can obtain great results.

i liked your playing in the clips and the tones were very good for direct recording.

Thanks for all the good comments (not that bad ones aren't welcome)!
However, I want to stress that recording outs don't give justice to this wonderful preamp.

very nice! these recording outs sound really nice.
ascesa is really cool, i LUV odd timing

Thanks Mrmot! At the time I was playing in a sort of prog rock band... at least we defined us "prog" just because of those odd-timing riffs 8) :D
