What is the difference between the numbers on the tubes. like if you have two pais of 6l6 tubes and one pair is STR440 while the other pair is STR220

STR refers to an old nomenclature, "Special Tube Request." Back in the day, electronics manufacturers would request a production run of tubes with a set of specifications that they desired. The new tubes of Russian or Chinese manufacture are simply relabled with these fabled designations and often are just 5881's.

It's all an attempt to separate you, the consumer, from your money. "The emperor has no clothes..."

once again, a sales technique - if it is perceived as exclusive, then it must be desirable. Why else would "STR" tubes from China be regarded as anything other than Chinese tubes?

Again, the STR designation in modern times with regard to current production tubes has absolutely no real meaning! The Eastern European and Chinese Manufacturers don't produce special Tube Requests.

Get past the "gurus" who just want to talk you into purchasing something "special." The emperor has no clothes.

For your Boogie, with no adjustable bias, with current production tubes, purchase matched sets. Without regard to brand. I've gotten the best mileage, with respect to 6L6 types, in this order: Winged C, Shugwang, Sovtek 6L6WXT+, JJ. The worst performance regarding power tubes was Ei.

Let the flames begin...

I have a simul-class mark III. So if i buy a matched pair of EL34'S as well as a matched pair of 6l6's, i should be fine?
