I just bought a 295 power amp to mate up with my quad. I know it's a huge beast and has easily twice the power I will probably ever need. The price was right though. I'm planning on running it in low power on the EL34's almost exclusively. On that note, am I going to fry this thing if I try to make it idiot-resistant by just removing the 6l6's altogether?

That'd be fine, but if anyone was to have a fiddle with it and flick it back to simulclass it might cause problems.

Why would you want to do it though? Might aswell just leave them in there anyway. If you got it second hand they're probably pretty worn anyway so they're no use anywhere else.

If you find it over powered but want some class AB punch, just to put an idea out there, you could look into sticking 6v6's in instead. Never tried that myself though.

My fear was that I'd have it set for a decent volume running in the low power mode and a sibling might take it to high power without readjusting. I'm not into testing the rating on my speakers. Using the 6v6's might be a more practical solution though. I could just override the switch if it came down to it also. Thank you for your help.
